I've waited until now. I'm in this time.

They have a very slick iPad "Smart Cover" too.

Faster, lighter, thinner, more powerful. What's not to like?!

http://www.apple.com/ipad/features/

Now I've gotta figure out whether I "need" a 16GB, 32GB or 64GB version...

16GB:$499.00
32GB:$599.00
64GB:$699.00

Apple offers iPad in two colors and three capacities in either a Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + 3G model. That gives you two different ways to connect to the Internet to download apps, check email, surf the web, and more.

What exactly do you do with an ipad anyway??

Watch videos? Play games? What is the purpose? Seriously.

I dunno. On the 28th looks like I will be grabbing one up for my daughter...:p

I do all my web surfing and email from the iPad now. I rarely get on my regular Mac at home now.

I also hook it up to my TV and watch rented iTunes movies. Great for the Havasu house as well. Rent before you go.

I thought it wouldn't get much use, but it really is a slick device.

Would I upgrade to the iPad2 right now? NO. Not for the two cameras. But if I didn't have one, YES! for sure.

Our twins are in the 4th grade. Mommy just got a new computer, so electronic shit is flying around from room to room in this house like crazy!:skull I was going to get her a laptop, but I figure the iPad should get her started until 7th grade or so when I get her a Mac.

The other one already has a desktop, flatscreen, etc etc. It's just viscious.;) And both of them are stealing our iPods daily, even though they both have shuffles...:smackbum:

Good question.

I'll use it to surf the web, read books (no more paper), control my iTunes (which is wirelessly streamed to the sound systems inside/outside the house), watch videos (from iTunes), do email, etc. I don't have a laptop at home (I have one at work but I don't bring it home) so I can use it to surf and email without being in front of the computer.

If you need the GPS your only choice was the 3G model on the Ipad "1". Not sure what the "2" is spec'd like but keep that in mind.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tablet which I like and has a lot of the feature the Ipad didn't. It is a smaller screen but I like the size better as it is more comfortable to use one handed. I always feel like I will drop the Ipad.

That is going to be my next adventure for out back, this summer. What equipment are you using? Do you like it, would you change anything around?:p

Better Antenna ????
When I tried the Ipad1 I kept losing control.
I was using it as a fader controller for an audio mixer app.
The concept was terrific but because of wi-fi dropouts and signal strength issues I could not go there. PC Laptops AND Mac laptops had better connectivity.

I have not read 1 word of improved antenna technology on ipad2.

I did read about a 4th antenna being added to the new (last week release) MacBook Pro. I was hoping for some trickle-down technology.

It couldn't be easier. We play our music using iTunes on the iMac. It's streamed wirelessly using one Airport Extreme http://www.apple.com/airportextreme/ and several Airport Express units (one for each sound system) http://www.apple.com/airportexpress/

We use Remote app on our iPods and an iTouch (in a plastic bag when we're in the jacuzzi or pool) to control the songs, playlists and volume http://www.apple.com/itunes/remote/

Now that we have Apple TV (one old one and one new one) we don't need the Airport Express units so I moved one into the garage and have it stream music to the boombox I have out there (and I use my iPhone to control the music out there - very cool).

I wouldn't change a thing except i should have done it years ago.

I can see that since you dont have a laptop at home.

But would you use it if you had a laptop???

Sure because while the laptop is convenient the iPad is way more so - lighter, not as hot running, smaller and the touchscreen makes it easy to use.

Serioulsy, have you been to an Apple store ?!? It might be one of the best pieces of technology, period.... If you sit on the couch all day drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon while watching the Jerry Springer show and being jobless, this might not be a device that you would need....

How do you get billed, is it spendy data time, unlimited?

I'm still on the fence about ditching the netbook for a smart phone...or an ipad?

It's free obviously on Wi-Fi, and from there just pick AT&T or VzW and check there data rates...;) I have unlimited so it should not create any issues.

i have an ipad, macbook air, mb pro 13, and a mb pro 17. just take my word for it and skip the ipad. its nice at first but you dont really do much on it but email and internet. the apps are fun at first, mine just collects dust now.

if u can spend the extra coin go with an air. its the same size, but a full laptop, ssd, and a solid battery life.

the ipad was nice at first, but once the "wow its an ipad" wore off it quickly lost its place in my world.

I'll buy another Ipad when they have a USB port and are compatable with Flash. :grumble:

To me it's a great PERSONAL device...if your not already using a smartphone. For the classroom, it's yet to be determinded.

I currently work at a middle school supporting some 400 PC computers. They get used daily by students. Now the school wants iPads...for what?

A nice tool for admin maybe, but will be a f'n nightmare to support 100's of them in the classroom.

HA HA good luck with that. Once again Apple says no to Flash (and a USB port).

Hey, come on. It's Korean! :D

You can get Flash on the iPhone. There are a couple of apps. I think the best one is $9.99, but I forgot the name.

I also use the iPad to control the Apple TV, which is also a great device, especially if you have Netflix. I also use the Keynote Remote for presentations at work. If you use Keynote, you have to try it. You will look like a genius to your co-workers and boss.

I use the ipad remote for apple tv. Very cool app. The ipad is great for email and web surfing. I rarely use my home pc anymore.

The flash deal sucks.

Maybe for the kids if they dont have a laptop.

I love gadgets, but I just dont see where it fits in. My laptop is pretty small and will go 4+hrs on a charge. The driod fills the gap when I dont want to whip out the Sony.

I dunno. Dont think I would use it :headscratch:

From what ive read on the thing, the most popular applicaton/use is to businesses that have presentations to make to their customers.

Its a nice, flat, easy to carry pad that can store lots of pics, that you can show off to prospective clients. Like a wedding planer, yano? Also its takin off in the medical field as well. No more nurses with clip boards, everything is done on the iPad, and transfered to the doc instantly. Seems to be a pretty good business tool!

Personal use? Prolly jus another toy.

And btw...

Verizon just cut off thier unlimited access data plans, just like AT&T did awhile back!!! If your not grandfathered in, get ready to pay big time.

In Laughlin I think at the Avi the cocktail waitresses were using iPads to take drink orders.
