Astounding statistics actually.😢
My parents both were still pre-teens when WWII began. They spoke little of the horrors of war other than being put into trains and removed from their birth/home city when it ended. Traumatized, their fear of more war fueled the desire to imigrate to North America.

I know some of the numbers are off a little and some should be combined with Germany but very interesting, I was blown away by Russia

One must understand why Russians don't give a rat's ass what the West think. Even if they're wrong sometimes [ Putin is no help in that respect ]the Russian people will die for Mother Russia. When the war with Ukraine started, I was 100% sure it won't be over in the matter of months. Catherine the Great took Crimea from the Turks not from Ukraine. Zelensky will give up ever getting it back.
BTW, I like ukrainians as much as the russians, .trouble makers for the world we see now.

Well it isn’t about how many die.. it’s about winning.

General Patton : The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard die for his

There’s a lot more to this than that.. but make no mistake human life aside.. AMERICA ENDED THAT WAR.

Contrary to what the commies would
Have you believe..

I am reading a book of WWII war coresident Ernie Pyle daily articles that were published in many state side newspapers. He was embed with front line troops and describes daily life, battel, and death. Very good book to help us understand what that war was like and how the average person is sacrificed for the ambitions and egos of leaders.

I got into it with a guy after saying” back to back world war champs”
He thought it was funny I thought the allies won, and contested that Russia beat the Axis.
I said Just because they threw 20 million bodies at them and out lasted them doesn’t constitute a win in my book.

It will be interesting to see if or when Ukraine turns against the US in the future. They, like Russia are in a very corrupt part of the world and will always resist change since that's their way of life and always will be. However, it does not help that we try to impose our values and politics on everyone.
Think Vietnam and the Middle East.
Let's spend the dollars we pissed away on our military and country instead.

What the Russians did in WWII was pretty amazing. When the war started for them they were completely unprepared. They were sending men to the front with one rifle per two or three soldiers. When they charged and the man with the rifle fell the next guy picked it up and kept fighting.

When the Germans launched barbarosa in 41 and invaded Russia the German blitz was devastating to the Russian army. It looked like Hitler was going to take Moscow. Then the mud... Tanks get stuck in it just like horses and cannon and the same thing that happened to Napoleon happened to Hitler. For the Russians to slog back over the next 4 years from the Germans being in sight of Moscow to beating the western front to Berlin is a pretty remarkable feat.

Dan carlins ghosts of the ostfront is 25ish hours on the eastern front and is worth a listen. Its no longer free but for 10 bucks it's a lot of content. The numbers of dead and the carnage... What do you do with millions of dead bodies...

The early Chinese casualties were pretty crazy. Japans invasion of China to start things off really was horrific. Carlin also did about 25ish hours on Japan in WWII and it's still free. The first episode is all about their invasion of China.

Thanks for that. I’ve always been a nerd for logistics and strategy. I’ll check it out.

Start with the free supernova in the East. If you like carlins style buy all the past episodes in the big bundle from his website. His series on wwi is his best. The mongol series is also very good.

We're were visiting my wifes village in Switzerland and attended a town meeting. They are friendly gatherings and discuss opinions and talk to the politicians.
Among other matters they have evacuation plans, and one in place in case the Russians would attack.

People were talking about escape routes.
Those that experienced WW2 in Germany said there will be no escape route. No one is going to go anywhere nor be able to go anywhere.

I once watched a interview with a surviving German WW2 U boat captain.
The Captain mentioned though "Britain suffered 50% Marine losses, total shipping losses due to U Boats was a very small %. Insignificant."
