They see the writing on the wall. Bigger boats on the eastern part of the country are the future. You can’t build a business dependent on Havasu boaters.

This is going to be the standard size baller boat in a few years. Look how many 34+ foot MTIs and DCBs are running around Havasu now. These guys take their boats all over the country to boat, and in the ocean. The MTI events in Florida are unreal.

Something smaller does not work for the client they are targeting.
I have witnessed that thought process. It did not work and crushed the company.

Your population of buyers is current customers or friends of current customers. Grow that and your population of buyers grows. Very few LOTO or east coast FL guys are going to purchase a boat from a west coast manufacture they have never heard of (even if it will save them a couple hundred grand).

Context is a thing.

The thread or the post wasn’t about Tony and DCB’s margins :)

Interceptor will have margin in this boat to undercut on price and get the name out to market because they are an unknown.

That was the context of what I said.

Again, does a Tahoe cost as much as an Escalade? Which one has more margin in it?
Well said and understood. The way we build and production time involved would blow your mind. Everything here is vacuum infused and the labor intensity is over the top. With all of our details we do nice S#@t here. As you see Interceptor used the same guy that help design our 37.

I’ve no idea about their numbers east of Texas, But we can remember a time DCB didn’t have a name back east either.
Dave,Tony and the crew earned it.
Interceptor can too, looks like they are trying.👍
I was really impressed when my dad and I visited Interceptor. In my opinion they do some of the nicest interiors in the business. Desert Storm hopefully we can see the first 36.

Tony can chime in but I can almost guarantee prices have not risen at the same rate due to not pricing customers out of the market. plus take into account cost of moving an entire facility to Arizona. Cost of labor going up especially skilled. Margins are likely not the same pre covid.
Its not my company so I don't really care, but to say the boat hasn't increased since 19' would be untrue. Pretty sure DCB knows what it cost to build a boat and probably has a better idea than most West Coast boat builders and they know what margins that are needed to keep their level...Now do they lower the margins when you are a 3-4x buyer every couple of years, sure why not.

Most of the employees moved with DCB to AZ so wages stayed the same for the most part and the employees got a raise due to the cost of living. The move cuts the bottom line and not figured into the price of the boat but since DCB moved out before the end of the year, the cost associated with the move is tax deductible.

Totally get it. Much respect you you, and your operation, and anyone else building custom boats for that matter.

I don’t know what your margins are and it does not really matter. When you are the best or among the best, it does not matter the cost because where are you going to get another bespoke DCB?

Timing is everything. It is a hugely different market today.

If they build a boat for today, it will be irrelevant tomorrow.

I’m not going to say they are riding DCBs coat tails, but they are following them upmarket in the path that DCB is trailblazing for west coast boats.

Love seeing new hulls being designed by West Coast builders. Can't wait to see the progress of this boat. As fellow boaters we should encourage things like this and not turn every post into a pissing match. Good job Andrew and his crew for growing the business.

I said nothing about your margins. I didn’t know an Escalade was the same price as a Tahoe.

Your boats cost more to make, and your operation costs more to run, does it not? You command top tier prices in the marketplace because you are among the best of breed.

Others without a top tier name do not.

I know you understand this.
What ever….you sound like Trump. Are you hiding something every time someone calls you out? Sounds like it.

You sound like Kamala.. putting words together that make no sense.
You sound like someone who has to have the last word, even if you can’t figure out what I just said. 😉

Have you ever complimented someone for asking you to shut up? Serious question.

I’ve had a compliment ready for you when you actually provided some semblance value, somewhere.

I’ve been waiting to use it for a looooong time 😂.

The problem I see is these are luxury items. When a new m37 cost 700k plus or an MTI is 800k+ the pool of buyers is small. Even worse the pool is very focused on brand names. Why do you think DCB and MTI sell so well they are the Rolex and Philippe of the world. With that being said these boats (interceptor) have to price accordingly. To low and they aren’t taken serious to high and they don’t have the name to back it up. But in this market a 2 outboard 35+ ft cat is 500k min no matter how you slice it. I don’t see the people who have 500+ k spending money on a Citizen watch. Everyone always wants the Rolex.

Pretty sure this was a Norcal design and was traded-sold to Interceptor. But have not got a update since 4th of July.
Are you saying this is the SOSA hull? Those guys had already built a plywood plug IIRC.

That’s when the boat sells for 300-400 and you become a brand “ambassador”.

If you wanna go toe to toe with DCB, Skater, MTI or whoever then you need to beat them in fit and finish and/or performance. And if you’re going to beat them in performance it better be by a lot because they all can touch 200mph.
