I know it's miserable, let's get that out of the way, but I'm hoping we can help those of us stuck here figure out the best vendors.

I use wozencraft for everything and it's gone up roughly 50% over the past 3 years

Move?
Our homeowners and vehicles are quite a bit less in NH, with same coverages, than it was in CA. 🤷‍♂️

Progressive for auto. Can’t remember who we use for home and Wozencraft for boat. Our auto insurance DOUBLED when we got the S63. 🤦‍♂️
So true. We were looking at a BMW 750i and when I got the insurance quote I about shit myself. High end German cars are ridiculous to insure. Even now with a Tahoe, Silverado and a Z06 Vette my insurance has gone up over 50% the last 18 months with Mercury. 51yrs old and clean record with multi car disc.

Need to shop around but from what i'm hearing everyone is getting f-d by these massive increases from all companies who still insure in Calif. I would love to hear some suggestions as well.

Yeah, we have perfect driving records and have multi car and low mileage discounts. I think for the golf cart two Mercedes and the truck it’s like 4K a year I want to say. Still not horrible but it was a hair over 2k a year before the new car.

I’ve heard MANY people complaining about large increases out of the blue from every type of insurance (home, boat, auto, RV, etc). And don’t get me started on medical insurance! That fuckin system is broken.

We have had Mercury for over 10yrs. We just shopped around and Mercury was cheapest by far.

If you ask LOF Mercury sucks. But they have been great for 3 claims we have submitted.

By the way my wife is an insurance agent so she may know what company to use and not.

My home owners insurance actually went down because of my wife’s mistake. We have the super awesome CA fair plan and Farmers for everything else. My wife was late paying the CA fair plan part because her brother passed away and she flat forgot. We had to reapply and they actually lowered it. All I can figure is since we built the house 5 years ago, we have our defensible space and landscaping in so it was lowered about $300 for the year. I also had them lower the annual mileage on my “work truck” since it’s not a daily driver. Saved $50 a month there.

Make sure you verify annual mileage and ask the agent to review any discounts that could be new or missed. (group discounts for job, education, degree, etc..)

Mercury now has several group discounts. If you are a AAA,Sams club or costco member you can save 7.4 %.

I have had no luck shopping around so far. I keep getting categorised as a high performance boat (a blower motor for being on a lake a mile up) and no one cares the lake speed limit is 35. They must think I’m a speeder.

No one gives a shit that a car can exceed the speed limit for insurance purposes, but apparently it’s important to boat insurance.

Just had homeowners dropped so renewed with AAA paying the same as before. Moved the RV from progressive to AAA to get a discount on the homeowners. it’s now $2 more a month for the motorhome but the discount on homeowners makes it worth it.

I spoke with Wozencraft and they are going to look at their other vendors. I'm going to call AAA, mercury and a few others tomorrow. I'm paying over 5500 a year for 2022 F250 and 2018 Tesla model 3. Perfect record with 1500 deductible

About to ad 3 more vehicles tonight to progressive. My Allstate agent secretary called earlier. Felt bad telling her I don't plan to renew. They dropped my commercial truck policy, my waverunners and my house. Then raised my auto policy another $1050 for next 6 month period. $3,750 for 6 months came out to be $800 each River trip for my 2021 Chevy 2500 for insurance and that's only time I drive it.

For homeowners only company writing policies in my area is Bamboo. Allstate didn't bother to tell me there underwriter was non renewing. And other house Safeco sent a letter for non renewal for condition of roof. Which is not bad at all.

Liberty Mutual jacked our rates on our Havasu house and the Jeep we keep out there. We just got a quote tonight from USAA for much less on both. Not California, but I would shop around.

I just made the switch from Farmers/Foremost to AAA for auto & home insurance. My home insurance was comparable… my auto… saved a ton.
Came out to $3,800 for the annual premium for the following 3 vehicles:

2024 Chevy 2500HD
2023 Honda Pilot
2016 Chevy Z06

Yes clean record for the wife and I. Farmers was jumping to $4k/year for just the Z06 which is an ultra low mileage use (still has under 4K miles).

I did just swap the boat to State Farm as well since Farmers/Foremost was not going to renew. That saved me half the premium too.

From my understanding AAA is one of if not the only one still writing new home policies?!? Who knows but it worked for me.

Did AAA require like 20 pictures of the house? My loan lady recently switched to them. But required a lot of pictures and a few days to get.

I got Progressive last night on one waverunner. $300 a year up from 250. I couldn't find the vin for the other. Have to ad it next river trip.

Progressive for auto but have to wait 2 weeks for policy to be effective. So had to pay Allstate 1200 for now to stay insured. For the best coverage it was $2200 a month compared to $3740 with a little less coverage with Allstate. I ended up lowering it some on 2 vehicles and it was $1700 for 6 months. So $4K less a year with Progressive once it kicks in in 2 weeks.

They text you a link and it tells you what to take pictures of. Front and back yard, garage, kitchen and bathrooms. Took about 10min had the quote back a little bit after that.

Yeah, like mentioned above, front, back, kitchen & bathrooms. And yes, I believe 14 days (or somewhere around there) for them to start coverage.

So funny, but kinda not funny part about the photos. They see my sheds in the back and ask for better photos of them. I said they are just overbuilt sheds I made, no coverage needed. One 12x8 and the 14x10… they end up adding a premium which cost me about $160 more per year. Why?!? Apparently they are calculating $210k to rebuild my sheds! I was gonna tell the kids to play nice inside the playhouse (12x8) but I think now, I’ll hand them torches to do as they please. Playhouse is insulated and dry walled, shed insulated and siding slats inside. Both ran for electrical etc. but still need to cut/install for lighting on them. Excuse the dirt, working the projects from the back forward.

Just moved the car from TN to FL address. Premium double from 700 yr to 1400. Stupid no fault insurance. 21 Lexus , but now the wife is wanting a Tacoma. Says she feel safer in a truck and that is the biggest we can fit in our parking spot. 🤷‍♂️

Major insurer gives brutal ultimatum to entire state: Let us put up prices by 50 percent or we will leave

California's largest insurer has given the state's government an ultimatum as the cost of providing cover continues to soar.

State Farm on Thursday told California's Department of Insurance to let them raise home insurance rates for millions of citizens, or they will ax cover.

Can anyone in the industry confirm, with data, that insurance companies are experiencing more risk due to climate disasters?

I have everything through Safeco. House, cars, rentals and umbrella too. No threats to drop us and premiums have only gone up a little.

It is interesting to me that they dropped 70K + holders and then wanted to increase their policies by 50% to help stabilize their balance sheet.... like you just dropped a major amount of policy holders and now you want to increase for all your other ones to keep your $1.2bil net income... This whole situation makes me crazy.. from the tree huggers to the politician's gouging homeowners...

Just read an article that says State Farm has requested a rate raise in good ole Cally, 30% for homes, 35% for condos, and 50% for renters. This after they raised rates earlier thin year for home insurance. Keep trying to get my oldest son to vacate that state but he wont leave

I understand the increases in costs to rebuild due to the inflation of prices of goods, service, permitting, etc. I cannot get on board with the fact that these insurance companies are blaming the current situation in the insurance industry on risk due to climate disasters. These folks go through so much modeling and forecasting it is unfathomable. I don't see them missing the prediction of natural disasters by a factor of 100%, nor do I see the occurance of natural disasters happening more often or more dramatically in the past. Purely memory based and not based on data.

What about Katrina? What about Sandy? What about Northridge? Those events seem much larger in impact than anything i can think of in near recent times with Sandy being the closest in memory/time.

Lumping my area into a high risk fire zone is BS. Just because it's CA it's 100 miles plus to any fire zone from here.

The insurance information institute CEO said on Squawk Box today that while losses and inflation are issues the real the issue with Cali insurance is state regulations. LOL go figure.

The biggest climate issue in CA that has been a problem is the political climate. Insurance commissioner of CA is a flaming liberal and has politicized the office. He had no insurance experience, doesn't even have an insurance license. He was re-elected in 2022. His #1 blame for the insurance climate is "climate change" so of course the carriers are gonna run with that If the state was already on board. The truth is, him playing politics is almost single handedly what's responsible for the mess we're in.

It is pretty simple.... insurance companies are for profit, private (non-govt) businesses. They would rather be doing business freely in the state.... but when they need rate increases due to inflation, cost of service, fraud, crime etc and the guy (insurance commissioner)who's in charge of processing those doesn't allow them to take rate for almost 2 years... you get the mess that we're in.
