My son started working there about 4 months ago. Started at $19.00. He and a friend he knows that already worked there, got a $250 bonus each, because his friend ā€œreferredā€ him. They both got $125 when my son started and will get the second $125 after heā€™s been there 6 months. He started out in the dining room and had done the register and worked the counter where they hand you your food.
He always has some story about people with crazy orders. One lady brought her burger back because her lettuce wasnā€™t green enough. šŸ™„

My daughter laughed the first time someone ordered 10 meat, no salt. Then a different person, same thing

They order them as dog treats/food. Has two customers with some really "cute fluffy dogs".

My daughter has been working at In-N-Out for about a year and a half. She's just now at 19.75, at level 3 or 4? The people she works with tend to be good, and they work around her school schedule. It's about the only chain burger I'll eat.

I do miss a good "Tam's Burger" from the hood though šŸ¤£
ahh yes Tams burger, my buddy had a shop just around the corner from their bellflower location in the old B&K boat repair building. we took many walks and a few drunken stumbles to get food.

BITD part of going to Irwindale was getting a burger . Buddy ate like 10 one day. Years later we learned that it was In N Out at the track.

Iā€™m in 100 percent agreement.
Yep. My ocean boat partner's daughter works at the one in Huntington Beach. She is a real busy student and can only work evenings. They pay even more for a late night shifts so thats what she works. $22 hr or something like that.

My son is a Sr. Lifeguard for the City of Mission Viejo with 4 1/2 years under his belt and makes about the same. Yes he has had to get wet several times to pull out struggling kids mostly. Just the other day he was comparing it to fast food monies and I told him that is the most difficult job on the planet and only In and Out seems to keep happy employees so its more than the money. I think they feel respected and that makes a massive difference. My son feels the same at what he does and its the perfect college job, lifeguarding, for him anyway.

Lets not forget you can thank this awesome In and Out gal right here for purchasing / Sponsoring ( @Done-it-again ) the Pomona Raceway just recently. Screwed Amazon as they wanted a distribution center there.

She races Top Sportsman @PRORACER7474 and has been drag racing since 14 I think. Her Dad was a drag racer.
She also has a Band and plays Bass Guitar.
She is also well educated.

Interesting family story having the retired grandmother (founder) jump back in the saddle after the plane crash killing her Dad and Uncle.
Grandmother reeled in the family and literally groomed her to take the business because she trusted her grand daughter.

In and Out is a massive success story and one that fits all us folk here at RDP for sure.

We live in close proximity to an In-n-Out and there is a lengthy line no matter what time you pass by. The service is great and the food is on point. One thing I will say about that particular location.....those employees earn every cent they're paid. They hit the ground running and there are no breaks in the action. Hardest working people in the fast food business. šŸ‘

Yeah, I figured he would get some sort of training about what to expect with orders, nope. My son was really nervous about having to take orders, but he ended up liking it. Except he gets a sore back because the counter is a bit short for him.

Iā€™d be fired my first day šŸ¤£ no way I could tolerate people.
That was my first thought. Back when I was his age, I could, but now that Iā€™m a grumpy old man, no way! šŸ˜‚

Now that the restaurant wages are going up do we still tip at 20% ?
šŸ¤£ tip less... jk... the government has taken your hard earned $$ without your permission & given it to someone else & no service or product upgrade for said increase...
This makes complete perfect sense to me...LOL

OR

Raise your hourly rate at your job, service or product charges to combat or adjust for this inflation spike.... This can be looked negatively & doesn't have to, but you can and are allowed to give yourself a raise!!!
I have raised my service charges and nobody has blinked an eye!! 50-75% I have raised for my services & everyone seems delighted... weird... so, i may see another offset inflation hike of about 25-50% more so I can keep gladly tipping for my services I like to pay for.... Remember peeps, inflation has never gone backwards it will never be back to .75 cent gas, etc...... We just gotta flex in front of the curve before the inflation happens so we are prepared.

Exactly.

They pay better than the other fast food chains. Therefore they can picky with whom they hire. They hire people who fit their culture and who are not total dumbasses.

That means that they have the best staff and the simplest menu.

That makes for great productivity which means that they can charge less for quality food, which means that they get more customers, which means that they can pay better than the other fast food chains.

It is self-reinforcing.
Just as important, they train all their employees to a standard and provide continuing training = In N Out University

I worked in the stores in High School and straight through college. They pay really well, and everyone knows 100 people want your job, a good motivation for those that are not self starters :) I can't say enough good things about the company going above and beyond for me, and some of my friends throughout our time with the company, and I certainly was no one special. Several of my friends are still with the company in various forms, some Store managers or Regional Managers, one runs the maintenance division for So Cal, one manages the computer ordering systems out of corporate, others in other lanes. I would be hard pressed to find a company as "employee first" as In N Out. Even though I didn't want to continue there in a corporate setting, even working in stores taught me how to work, how to work well with others, and how respect should go both ways.

After In N Out, I learned how you need to interview your potential employers as well. Sure people can argue about the food and such, but the facts about the company and how they treat people are not up for debate. It still amazes me they can have the highest wages, the most people on the shift, and the meal is still significantly cheaper than any cheap fast food place in town.

That's why In and Out fries suck. You don't get sufficient control of the sugar and water content in the fry if you use fresh potatoes.

Starting with frozen, pre-cut fries is better because
1. The potatoes are harvested when they are at their peak for making fries and then frozen
2. Freezing does things to potatoes that makes the fries better (you can read about it in Kenji's book)

I don't have these problems, because I like their fries. :)

Now the Taco Bell managers making 6 figures to me is wild. I could only imagine how frustrating it must be with how fast the turnover rate is. Juggling 5 ppl on the roster and 3 have excuses every day.

Think about how much revenue a Taco Bell brings in. You'd be insane NOT to have a good manager and pay him well because he's dealing with idiots. And now you know why those managers hire adult immigrants whenever possible. They need to work. The kid in HS or college does not.

Dated a girl who managed a Taco Bell off I-5 in Nor-Cal. She was 20 and putting herself through college and had her act together. Parents were drug addicts and she had been on her own since 15. Own apartment, new car, etc. Was making $27 hr and that was 25+ years ago. Half the employees were over 30 making minumum wage. Couldn't imagine dealing with that mess on a daily especially the night shifts she worked, but she handled it well.

Hand't thought about her in years,,, Bet she went on to good things,,,šŸ‘

I don't think In & out bought the Pomona Raceway but became the sponsor for the race track over the automobile club and now the trac has extended racing with the fairplex till 2033

Well I prefer in n out over the other fast food. I can hear the person taking my order clearly and understand. They understand what Iā€™m ordering too.

Think in all my years going to in n out I only had one order wrong they quickly corrected it. And another they forgot to give me the ketchup I asked for. Thatā€™s in over 30 years so canā€™t complain on that mistakes happen itā€™s just very rare.

My wife's classmate in college helped open the Havasu In N Out. She was in San Diego and they paid for her to move out there and live there for six months.

I had friends go out for the first few weeks. Its called All Starring. The pay is ridiculous, I think it starts at 1.5 your normal rate, and then you are working over every day, so by the end of the week its pretty much quadruple time. That plus per diem, and no time to spend any money, and obviously some good night life, people would come back making several months worth of money in a couple of weeks. In my days, some people specialized in this and constantly were opening new stores, no home store, good money and fun for someone who is single. With all the expansion now, especially into areas where the store hasn't existed before, a lot of demand for seasoned vets to train up whole staff. When a store opens in so cal, its mainly transfers and then some new hires, when you are in a new state, its all going to be fresh except the few store managers.

Yes. Sponsor means what ever is finically needed to run IMO. They definitely don't own the land its sitting on. Not sure who does if its the county or the city or ?

With Fontana closed and Irwindale always unsure of their future Its nice to have Pomona secured and not doing a 50yr lease to amazon.

I don't know what direction Autoclub is heading but In and Out stepping in saved that place, at least for now.

She races the Top Sportsman class, it is funny that we were having this same conversation at the finals in Pomona. We were pitted right next to a mobile IN and OUT kitchen and at 6 in the morning I was sitting at the table doing paperwork and all the employees were there smiling and cleaning and getting ready for the day. Later I asked one of the guys that looked like a boss how the company was to work for and he told me that it was the greatest company on earth and he has been with them since he was 17 and was now 45. Later that day Lynsi stopped by to say hi to my son and I told her how impressed I was with her employees and there work . She said there employees are there number 1 asset

Per Lynsi Snider from her new book The INs-N-Outs Of IN-N-OUT Burger the first step in an interview is the person's attitude/presentation. If you don't pass that hurdle your not even considered. The highest pay position for a general worker at any location is the employee flipping the burgers but I can't recall that $$.
A general manager is at $165k per year + benefits. She knows how to run a business that's for sure.

Completely agree!

Take care of your employees and theyā€™ll take care of your customer. When people feel like they have a voice and can effect change and feel empowered theyā€™ll go to the ends of the earth for the organization. Culture is a real thing.

"The Fairplex is owned by Los Angeles County, but is leased to and is governed by an independent, self-supporting non-profit organization, the Los Angeles County Fair Association, which manages and produces the county fair and re-invests surplus revenues generated by the fair and other events in the maintenance and development of the facility."

So were lucky the The Los Angeles County Fair Association (non-profit) likes NHRA drag racing and In and Out Hamburgers.

Most fast food is a franchise model. Corporate gets paid first, franchise owner gets paid second, shareholders get paid next. Thatā€™s three levels of bureaucracy in line before the workerā€¦

In and out is a private company with owners and workersā€¦ subtracting two levels of profiteering in between them.

I prefer publicly traded fast food because I canā€™t eat my way to financial freedom, but I can profit from those who choose to try!

I once ate a 6x6 with fries and a neopolitan shake... always wanted to shoot for the 10x10 but never did make it happen. Don't even think they will let you order them that way anymore.

It's $165K plus Profit Sharing Bonuses. The Snyders learned long ago if you have great employees you need to take care of them or you'll lose them!

The whole $20 Minimum Wage for Fast Food Workers is going to drive inflation thru the roof in California. We have several entry level workers here that make approx $16-$17 per hour and are already rumbling they're going to walk accross the street to McDonalds in January if they don't get at least 10% more than that. So then if you give them $22 to stay, then the machinists with years of experience are going to now want raises as well. It's a Clusterfuck Vortex!!! I'm sure were not the only company having this problem.

Come over here, and I will cook some great fries for you.
Iā€™m certain yours would be better. Iā€™ve had better fries at many places.

I just had some In-N-Out fries. For $2.15 for the little boat of fries.. Iā€™m satisfied.

It looks really good...but it's also a tad more coin!
Not by much when you consider what you get including a craft beer.
OP spent $14 for his meal
Pastrami sandwich and a bigger burger with their killer mac n cheese, $38
