I like this setup a lot! As long as it lives I think there’s a real opportunity here.
ILMOR flew us to the engineering plant in Plymouth Michigan. These engines are hand build in the same small clean room that the PENSKE Indy and nastruck racing engine are built. The attention to detail was incredible. They round all 90 degree corners so components are less likely to fail.

I asked for a quote from the factory 2 years ago before we repowered. I was serious. I got an email response from someone senior in marketing who referred me to Barrett, but nobody thought I meant it, so I moved back to Merc. My wife called it an Eellium, so there’s that…

What are your thoughts and opinions on the Ilmor engines and drive packages. Pictures and videos of your new boats are aplenty, but no one ever gives a review, feedback or driver impressions.

The overall performance is phenomenal. Everyone who drives my boat including me loves the way the boat carries and will get on plane with 6 people and running 3” above the bottom.
You can remove your hand from the steering wheel and 90mph and tracks straight.

The digital throttle and shift is butter smooth. I’m running a 32p hill cleaver and the boat feels locked in. The 570 and incredible midrange pull.

The only downside currently is prop selection. Still in development through Barrett and ILMOR. My boat is somewhat perfect. 93-94 mph at 6,000 rpm but slip is 14%. I will be trying more props supercat week. Goal is to cut slip in half and be in the 95+ range.

Once props are dialed I think it will be a great package. They are developing a single shaft lower as well which will be great from choosing pretty much any prop out there.

Is your boat for sale still? Are you building something new. My gawd that thing sounds like a raped ape you’ve passed me going up river before and I love it.

Thanks for your reply and the info! Have you guys run the Fundeck with the Ilmor yet? Any truth to the rumor that Eliminator is coming out with a twin engine deck boat? If so, please share some info.

Aren't these props contra rotating since they are on the same shaft like a Bravo 3 drive? Counter rotation is when the there are two props on separate shafts rotating different directions.

Can’t say I have ever heard of contra rotating? I didn’t realize there was a terminology change from one to the other?

That said technically no counter rotating props would be on the same shaft or they’d be rotating the same direction?

Something I learned from another old boat guy a couple of years ago. He is one of those type of guys that is a stickler for terminology. His biggest hang up was people calling engines motors. He would get cranky and say what does it convert to energy, fuel or electricity.

If you look up a Bravo 3 drive on Mercury's site it will say it is contra rotating as well.

Coming at it from being an electrician for close to 30 years the motor/engine terminology I get! If its a motor I'm hooking it up, if its and engine call someone else. :)

All I know is, my trucks were built by General Motors and I have to change the motor oil every few thousand miles 😜
I have had the same argument with him beleive me and you just get to the point were you arent going to change some opinions in people. American took the word motor which comes from the Latin verb moto which mean to put in motion so we made it interchangeable in the American language.

Didn't mean to hi jack this thread over terminology differences just thought the contra vs. counter rotation was an interesting one that I think most people hadn't heard before.

I’m not sure it plays though because they basically mean the same thing?
