Auburn trails, Cool, Ca.
And if you don't mind being far from the river, Paso Robles/Atascadero is just beautiful.
If I were to move back it would be somewhere in San Diego. The prices there have come down substantially and made housing affordable.

If money wasn't an issue I'd go to Sunset Beach (ocean front) or Huntington Harbor or Laguna
LOL .... I knew someone who actually lived in vernon, I think there was 3 houses there at that time, now I think probably double that
I've always like Mission Viejo. There's a good chance my job will be sending me to So Cal in 2 years and that's where we will most likely be house hunting. Im a little concerned what the commute to LA will be like twice a week but it should be manageable since it will only be twice a week.
I have lived in So Cal my entire life and like the beach communites. Believe it or not they are not as croweded because no one lives on the water.
Huntington Beach to Laguna Beach.
One of the very best "Bang for the buck" beach communities is definitely San Clemente. 30 minutes to SNA and an hour to LAX if you fly international, has pretty much everything you need within 10 - 15 minutes and the housing prices are some of the most reasonable for any beach community in Southern California.
Now with that having been said........I moved to Havasu for lots of reasons......specifically to escape the "Peoples Republik of Kalifornia" from a taxation and "Big Brother" standpoint!

So.............not to sound like the San Clemente Chamber of Commerce but.......this is really not the case in SC. The reason????????????? ........there are almost no hotel/motel rooms in town so the out of towners are pretty much there only for the day and not into the evenings.....the restaurants aren't overcrowded.LO fucking L. Do you not go outside of your house? Only time it feels quite or not crowded is the winter time. Lived in Newport for many years and its a focking zoo all summer long. Half way tolerable in the winter.
Well sold our place in Tehachapi, CA and are headed to Bakersfield "NW Rosedale Area". Not out of Ca, but the wife is happy still being close to family "My mom will be two streets over" which will be great for babysitting.
After looking for a few weeks found a place and put in an offer on the second home we found considering the inventory as well as how much the home appealed to us it was a no brainer.
Now the wonderful waiting period of a short sale. Any of the Bakersfield peeps on here give me a ring and we"ll grab a beer once the dust settles.

I've lived in Newport as well as Carlsbad and I agree that these places are focked in the summer.....we used to say thank God for Labor day now we get our beach back till Memorial day.......was/is NOT like that in SC......Just sayin'
That being said, Fallbrook still has a rustic feel, Valley Center as well, as well as many areas of east San Diego County. But be prepared, nothing is as it seems out there either. I have a nephew that is an east county San Diego Sherriff, and the stories he can tell you about east county........:thumbsdown
only two things come from Bakersfield....Steers n Queers. You don't look like a steer...
Good luck on the short sale. I just moved into my new house last week. What a freekin roller coaster it was with the loan company:box::box:
