..or prayer, or pretty much any good thoughts.

My wife found out last night that one of her old students, Zion, is in New York city. Apparently, he has a cyst in, I believe, a ventricle in his skull. This can cut off circulation, and be fatal. Phoenix Children's was going to do a craniaotomy (sp), but a surgeon in NY saw the MRI's and contacted the family. He's a leader in children's brain surgery, and felt it can be done laproscopically, and avoid the risks that come with the other. Mom and Zion spent all day yesterday, intensive pre-op stuff. Zion went into surgery a couple hours ago.

The parents are the adoptive parents of 4 special needs kids. I don't know how they do it, but they do. Dad is home, with the other three. Luckily, his work is on winter break. Zion and mom will be in NY for the next week.

It's scary as a parent, and stressful for a family. It being Christmas I'm sure compounds this. My wife is notably upset, it is one of her students from a few years back. Being a special needs kid, makes it harder for her maybe.

A thought, a prayer, positive energy...if you have a moment to spare. I believe in it helping, it surely can't hurt. The family could use it, I'm sure.

Woohoo! Mom said it went really well. The doctor said everything went great, and Zion didn't even need a stint, or a drain. Mom was allowed to stay in until he was put under...he was having a fit. He is now resting, and I think his mom and dad must be spooling down, ready to collapse. It was snowing this morning in NYC. Pretty cool Christmas present for them. 🥲

I've only met the boy a few times, as well as the parents. Obviously my wife has more ties to them. Still kind of an emotional deal though, and I'm real happy for them. Christmas miracle, good doctors, maybe just luck...I don't know for sure, but things worked out, and that's what matters!

Prayers sent for a terrific outcome. Some of the medical things they accomplish these days are incredible and miracles.

That is amazing as well as taking care of special needs children. Often a lifetime commitment. Bless those that do, has to be a gift. Never had to thank god, but so much respect to those that do. Merry Christmas to all.

The dad is getting his Santa game on...and with the hospital in New York, there's some help coming around as well. The mom, her sister and Zion were able to stay at the Ronald McDonald house. Zion has a few days in the hospital for observation and such, pretty sure mom will stay at his side.

Most who care for special needs kids probably do it because it's their own, one or two as well. They have chosen to care for four. They are something far beyond anything I could imagine being. They are raising kids others turned away. I respect them a lot.

I'm just really glad things look to have gone well.

Late last night I saw a pic. Zion looked tired, as well he should be...it's been a really long few days, and he's been fighting some medical issues for a bit now. What was truly amazing, aside from him smiling, was the incision. I know nothing of brain surgery (surprising, I know). I knew what a crainiotomy entailed, and that would be cutting open the skull. Scary as hell, and a lot of healing time. He has a 1" incision a few inches above his right eye! There are some serious marvels of science and medicine. I know the healthcare system has caught hell the past few years, but there are still some really good doctors doing really good things. He had been scheduled for the crainiotomy tomorrow at Children's Phoenix. I don't know how this doctor was able to see the MRI's, but maybe surgeons have a board where they share info and discuss things too. Whatever the case, it worked out.

On the prayer chain, Zion. Thanks and good job all around. Wow, Doc.
