Boating has gotten ridiculously expensive. The entry level thread gave me this idea for posting.

My suggestion is really for those that have a place to build a custom boat……. On the cheap.

First……. Rather than try to compete with the go-fast crowd, build something one of a kind, and it will become a conversation piece. So the following pics I found on the internet. The pics I found are still not nearly as cool as the builds I have seen first hand. But it will give you an idea of where to start.

The hulls represented in the pics below are available right now at Coopers Auction, starting at $2500, minimum bid.

So let me introduce you to The Hurricane Fundeck………… Modified! Lol

They certainly don’t look like the deck boats, in which these hulls originated. All that stuff has to be removed, then converted to center console.

Here is what I would do…..

Buy hull
remove everything
paint hull sea foam green with white
ad prefab center console with built in forward seating
add prefab double seat, with base. You could ad 2nd row of double seats, giving 6 forward facing seats.
add prefab T-Top
Tan Sea Deck entire boat
buy new Merc 225
Ad Jack plate
ad trim tabls
ad double power pole (this is your power anchor and easy button) single will work too. I just like this item. One push and your are anchored. Push again…to leave. It’s that easy.
I personally wouldn’t ad any rails.

You would now own a boat that gets excellent gas mileage and will draft in less than a foot of water. Let your imagination be your guide. But the most expensive item is the motor, which you could buy used too.

Souther Florida specials. Great mangrove fishing boats.

I hate the hurricane hull. Its a pig Florida Rental places love these things and I have rented a few of them while traveling.

It rides rough, wet and slow. Reminds me of an old trihull. I think the only benefit is capacity rating and stability. Which does make some sense for a flats boat...

I dig the idea of a lean and mean flats boat but there has to be a better bottom out there to canabalize

That would be fun as hell outside of Everglade City.

An Action Craft would be my #1 boat to search for. They make several sizes from 17-21' that will handle as much motor as you would want. That boat handles rough water extremely well, floats dry and is made to last. You wouldn't have to do any custom glass work. It's just a sharp looking, well thought-out performance flats boat that sets the bar really high. They've made them for years, so there are used versions available. 👍

A man after my own heart! Chokoloskee for the win!!! 🤘
I want to run down there so bad. My draft is 14 inches, but 26 feet I think is overkill. I need to buy a Jon boat and have at it.

That place is paradise and the fishing is second to none! I've spent many nights fishing down there with my Dad. If you are careful, you'd be OK in a boat up to 21'. Any larger and you're asking for trouble. We'd fish out of a 21' Action Craft that his good friend, a professional guide, owned. It was perfect for three of us. We only got grounded one time fishing on the outside. Never had any problems on the inside though. 👍
