Wife and I are looking to spend some time up there in June scouting for retirement property. Anyone familiar with the area? Looking for Things to do and tips on where to stay.

We spent a couple days there a few years ago. We stayed in our RV so don’t know about places to stay. It’s a very small town with not much going on. There 4th of July show is epic. Though.

Look into Idaho National Lab tours, pretty interesting place. Mackay has a lot of SXS rental places and a good trail system. Jackson Hole, and Yellowstone aren't too far away. Still a lot of snow up in the hills right now.

My family is from Idaho Falls and spent most of my life vacationing their. It's not a small town anymore.Things to do world class trout fishing W.fork of the snake river.Boating you have Rire a small local lake 17mi. and Palisades 55mi. which is in a place called swan valley or island park about 79mi. from Id. Falls.Yellowstone is 107mi. N. and Jackson Wy about 80 mi away. In the winter if you snow ski either Grand Targhee 67mi. top of the mountain has a full view of the Tetons or Jackson Hole Wy. Plenty to do if your into the outdoors and didn't even mention the hunting or off roading.Gods country in my opinion.

Is Kelly Canyon still operating? Father grew up in Rire and we used to visit the grandparents yearly. We would always go ski Kelly Canyon.

I am from there. Where are you thinking for land? Right around town or out a ways?

Summers are nice. The town is very affordable. Nice town very nice people. Be prepared for extreme cold winters.. one of the coldest places in the U.S.

Not really sure never been. My MIL vacations there and really likes it. My wife's family is centered around northern Utah so thinking it might be a good place to look at.

The biggest negative is winter. Doesn't get over freezing for December, January and February.. Can be very windy also.
Great for outdoor people. Good fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, skiing, hiking, rafting, camping. A few of my kids live there. Good, safe community..
