Never said never, smartass. :)

Not much motorspecs or boat setup given, (both 496 on racegas?) but the jet is a dedicated hull, placecraft?

Brian

I don't think anyone can dispute, dollir for dollir, ain't no jetboat going to be faster, or quicker, than a flatbottom vdrive.

Can jets be "faster"? Sure they can, but put that same "shit" (money/time) in a flat, and the jet is going to get its ass drug twice on Sunday.

The only thing a jetboat is better than a flat is for shallow water use.

Fact, hands down, good luck with the rest of it. ;)

Brian

I think the ditch pump went by first?
Oh but it could be camera angle.

For the record, are you going to watch the vdrive boat porpoise like it is its job and say that boat is setup well, or even right?

Haha. Wasn't the camera angle!! Mud sucker definitely went by first.
Hell we even had the same scoop, can't get much more equal than that!!

So what is a typical speed of a 18-19 jet with 450-550 hp then

Depends on the boat. 60s is np. With a good set up you can hit the 70s.

For me it all comes down too where you want to boat. You said in the shallow water. So for me that means jet.

Damn, hopefully my lawyer approves of this draft response.....

Yea, a well setup placecraft against a porposing, obviously poorly setup flat. I think that proves my point, exactly.

Similar to my SRT magnum beating up on a generic hotrod that showed up to the streetdrags and me running around after the race waving the checkered flag.

Correct, placecraft. Only thing it was dedicated too was pulling my kid on a wake board. Lmao

Actually he ended up putting that motor in a well set up runner bottom and ran the same E.T as I did at the races.

cant compare a flat and a tunnel hull...

maybe a runner bottom might have a better comparison with that placecraft, but still different.

im with wsusrhrrrr it took that vdrive 20 minutes to take a set...

A v-drive will be far more efficient with the same power and would probably cost you less for the same performance. Just my .02. Google it. One of the first videos to pop up is the 19' Schiada/Howard knocking off a blown jet without even breathing hard. You can see how well the v-drive takes a set and just walks away from the jet.....which is struggling and bouncing around all over the place "Trying" to be in the game. No chance.

It looked like to me that it only hopped after shutdown because they let off the plate, it looked to take a decent set when it launched....

But yea, Placecraft is a fucking racecar hull.....that's a sweet one too!

My buddies 600HP tunnel rammed 454 19' Bahner ran in the mid 70's with a Berk setup by Jetboat Performance. It FELT a lot faster than that since it only had like 12" of draft....:D

Only takes money.....faster you want to go, more money you throw down the hole....;)

I want a bote for Parker and needles. 35’ off shore boats don’t work well in the shallows

Basically just cruise those areas. Whatever I buy I would like to install a 8-71 or bigger to make it faster

A flat isn't going to be a good boat in Parker except at 5AM during the summer, sort of similar for a jet. I live in Parker full time, and would consider a 21' boat to be sort of the smallest thing you can use much on a weekend without being sunk by waves and rollers, and it would be a good platform for a blown engine.

My Miller Jet has 600 hp +-, NA, does an honest 85 mph with an A impellor, seats 4 easily.
I had it, the eliminator flatty vdrive, and my 5 rib hydro vdrive all at the same time. All were great fun.
The flatty and Hydro are gone, kept the Miller.

Mid 70s. A 800 HP jet will be mid-high 70s.

My friends neighbor just put a 570 HP(dynoed) BBC in an 18 foot jet (I want to say it is a Connolly), it went 73. Had a tired olds 455 in it before and it went 59.

also jets r not flatties they are shallow v bottoms unless you get a tunnell hull...i prefer swtd or daytona elim) im not a cp fan...............................and stay away frol some of the basic set ups like a 455 olds w/panther pump.....try to stay with 454 bb w/ dominater or berkley or AT split bowl pumps.....if your a ford guy i quess u would have to go 460 bb..

a basic set up stock 18 ft jet boat runs 58 to 65 mph or on craigslist they do 100 +

Truefuckinstory.

My 18’ eliminator flat I got from Rick King was the perfect training flatty.
No pedal, just the lock handle.
I was ready to move up and had bought a 76’ Sanger true flat and was restoring it when I had to liquidate.
The eliminator has a single carb BBC solid cam 427. Don’t know the HP but had to be less than 500.
I learned a lot about tuning the plate and had it pretty dialed for no pedal. It didn’t have the HP to truly carry the nose, but still did close to 90 MPH.
That was a fun boat. I’ll likely get another flatty at some point, with bigger power and a pedal and continue my learning curve!

I’m a big fan of running stout impellers and deep torque and HP rather than wringing out engines in “family” jets.
Mine is all in by 5700 RPM.
It’s specifically built to work with the pump. Spent many late nights pouring over impeller charts and trying to come up with “the combo”.

At the same time I had JBP Tom and josh working on the hull. Fillet the bottom flat for the shoe and plate, and afterwards they did the rail kit as well. My engine costs about $10K to duplicate. The jet unit is nothing like it was stock. I think the original was a JG? Whatever the one piece bowl is.
It now has 2 piece bowl, hyd place, droop, stainless A (It’s the 3rd configuration I’ve had in it).

You can’t compare the 2.
I’ve had both for many years.
Each has its pluses and minuses.
The endless chant is exactly what you are saying. “Jets are slower with the same power”.
The truth is, and as a machinist you know this, engine configurations are not interchangeable between the 2 boats.
At least not in any efficient manner.

I had a 18' jet with a 460 and top speed was 70. But a great cruise around river boat , actually used it as my parker winter boat...

If I was going with jet for parker, I think a CP is a great boat. I know some guys that have them and run them on parker strip...too

Point was 500 hp anything aint gonna go anywhere near 90 in a jet.
:)

Sorry if that wasn't clear.

I heard that jet bote guys post their GPS speeds while going downriver and driving solo. V-drive guys post their speeds while going upriver with a booby bouncing blonde next to them. Again, just what I have heard.

I always thought it was driving along the highway, alongside the river, on the trailer, like the natural environment of a Schiada, the baddest boat of all time. ;)
