After the laws passed a couple of years ago - I thought this was the year for it to go into effect.

Here I am up and realize that time changed.

Did I dream that?

CA fucked it up! The other states that needed to agree, did…… CA however did not.

Ca voters passed the initiative in 2018...goes to show you how much our elected officials respect our votes/wishes.
I've been biting my tongue wanting to post my annual time-change-rant . . . . you summed it up for me perfectly . . .thank you. 🙏

Voters approved giving the CA government the ability to review. CA government never took the issue

I for one being in construction I am for Daylight Savings Time, I don't want to have to start work at almost 8:00am in the dead of winter and wouldn't like it getting dark at 3:30pm. DST is just keeping the regular daytime activities in the same time of day as to not interrupt our usual activities. Back when Nixon was president in the 70's we tried to eliminate DST and it met with disastrous results - kids walking to school or waiting for the school bus in the dark, bums still wandering the streets in the dark (well that hasn't changed), people complaining about it getting dark early.....How soon they forget.

So I was still skeptical about all this shit & did a little geeking out.

Being a fisherman, I looked at the Sunrise / Sunset and Moonrise / Moonset calendar . . .

Today, November 5th, here in SoCal we have 10 hours & 42 minutes of 'daylight.

The days will continue to get shorter until the shortest day of the year,December 21,when we'll have 9 hours & 55 minutes of daylight. (aprrox. 1 hour less of daylight than today.

The days will then start to get longer (untill June 20th).

On March 10th we go back into daylight saving time.
On that day we have 11hrs and 48 minutes of daylight . . . almost exactly 1 hour more daylight than we have today on November 5th.

So we have a little less than 2 months of losing daylight . . . then a little more than 2 months of gaining daylight before we move the clocks back.

My questions are . . . who chose 4 months as the time period? . . . and why November 5th?
Also, why are we moving the clocks back with 10:42 mins. of daylight . . . but not moving them forward till there's 11:48 of daylight????

Seems to me it would make more sense (if there is any in all of this) . . . to move the clocks forward when we have the same amount of 'daylight' as we did when we set them back !!!!! 🤷‍♂️

(edit) . . . In looking at the sunrise/sunset calendar . . . February 6th 2024 has the same amount of daylight (10:42) as we have today November 5th.
So in addition to this nonsense . . . they're fucking us for an extra month. 😆

I've always thought NV and Ca would work well on Mountain time for the whole year rather than switching back and forth. Now that the coddlers in charge moved school start times back to 830 ish in many districts so kids could "get more sleep/ get more late night screen time " lol that old going to school in the dark issue would now be addressed.
