Thank you to everyone for your time spent helping us with this. You have all played a big roll in our decision making. After a long and very difficult process we have made up our minds. We are going with the Hallett 275 w/ Merc 565. If I could have the 600, I would have went that route. We felt that the overall length of the boat would probably be a better trade-off than my desire to go faster. I think it would be better for the kids too. I'm sure the 565 will be plenty fast when the wife lets me do a speed run. I'm a little sad about the 600, but I think we made the right choice. I sure love them 255's though.

Either way I think you are going to be happy. Congrats on the decision.

Nice choice, top speed is overrated, and BTW you only need 89 for the 565.

I also think the 565 sounds a lot nicer at an idle than the 600

Maybe you can talk one of the motor gurus into using your engine to come up with power upgrades for cost that don’t exist yet!

For a new build right now I’d stick with Nordic.. you will get a quality boat in an acceptable time frame.

If looking to use next summer I’d be eyeing that 26 Lavey As a potential for sure.

I didn’t mean to down play the 28 heat bottoms capabilities, it’s a faster hull but rides rougher than a typical hallett.

my nephew has a 28 heat with a 500efi and just freshened and it only go low 60s so i will bet a 565 would maybe get to 70. get a 290 with 600 one of best rides out there and will run low 80s and can ad up to 300hp at any time. the heat does not hande big water like the 290 Hallett we have both in the family

somethjng weird is going on with your nephews boat.. that thing should be running Mid 70’s pretty handedly..

we have tried several props and drive spacers and even freshened motor. we are in the midwest and are speeds are alot slower than havasu.theres a guy here boat a 28 howard 500 efi extra clean and no hours and it only would go 68 and his 270 hallett with same motor would run low 70s.when i say top speed that lake ready full fuel and at least 4 people. i have never been in my boat with only 5 gallons fuel and no lake equipment in a speedo to see top speed.

Dan's work is so good. The 27 he has is a dead on 70 mph boat GPS. 1/4 tank two people. The Bullett same conditions should run 5-6 mph faster as Dave said earlier.

Update to the build. My beautiful wife agreed to the 600 sci. This was only possible because the Nordic Sales Manager and his Team worked with us and got us in the price range we needed to be in. These guys are so awesome. My wife is even better. I had to promise her I would never buy anything ever again, ever. I am one happy guy right now. As soon as I found out, you guys were the first people I wanted to tell. The 600 is going in the 275.

Do I have to ask Nordic if they would want to participate with RDP to post updates to the "From the Mold" section? Or, do they do it automatically? Not sure how this works?

Not sure who was the go to. I think Bob. Since he left Nordic there haven't been any build threads from them.

I know that I personally benefited from seeing other boats being built in stages as they progressed. RDP has done an amazing job at that! I am more than happy to give back by posting my build (assuming Nordic is ok with it). I think it's good for the community and helps others (like myself) get an idea how this whole experience goes down.

I wasn’t aware that they stopped posting the build threads.. I’ll hit up thane about it. Maybe John Lovell can update them or the new sales guy?

In ride comfort there is no substitute for length. You will rarely wrap that thing out for top speed so in my opinion your motor selection is plenty and will allow you to run a great cruising speed and the hull selected will provide the best ride out of the options presented.
