Yesterday was 9 months. Still haven't had a drag. Been tempted. Buddies were over last weekend for garage beers. They both smoke but were smoking cigars. Smelled like ass on 🔥.

Wife and daughter are now "extra" up in my business trying to get me to loose some lbs and cut back on the garage beers. They think quitting the cigs was easy for me and I should do some more life changing. 🤔

Why not? You've been able to accomplish something very hard. Improving your lifestyle should be easy. A better diet and exercise go a long way. Good luck.

Great news.

Sounds like a good plan. Keep on improving.

i was never overweight but I loved my sweet tea. I drank about a gallon a day.
I gave it up about the same time you quit smoking.
My cravings for dessert has diminished and my blood sugar isn‘t a roller coaster ride anymore.
I eat few, very few carbs but lots of protein, been doing that for years except the sweet tea. It was high in carbs.
i’m 52 and reguarly work 12-14 hours a day. I climb like a monkey and fuck like a rabbit.

Stick with it. Took me 7 years for the urge to leave.

Yesterday was my one year... 🤙still going strong. Not even a puff.
I still crave a smoke daily but it has gotten easier. No more rage or loss of focus when I'm having a craving. Beer and Whiskey intake is back to "my" normal. Food tastes great
Which is a problem. I started doing alot of the cooking to keep me busy when at home. Wife likes the cooking part, not so much the extra eating. Been working out a few times a week with the twins.
Goal this year is to drop 20lbs at a minimum.
This thread really helped with this journey. Hopefully it helps another inmate quit. If I can do it, anyone can.

I really hope you can pull it off. I’m healthy as can be. My sister who I usually share similar health problems with has been a smoker for about 38 years. She is 54 and I am 51. Her health has drastically deteriorated in the last 5 years. I can’t stand the thought of what is going to happen to her but she doesn’t seem to have any desire to quit.

Just do it.

I quit sugar and went to low carbs when I started to see effects I didn’t want from eating them.

Do whatever it takes.

There comes a point in almost every life when health is all you got………

All the Patches, Gum, and other Bullshit are worthless, IF you do not have the "Backbone" to resist the Craving!! Watching a Loved One, die a slow miserable Death from Lung Cancer is painful to experience.

You MUST WANT TO QUIT!!

1995 Heavy Smoker 2 pack day minimum, workaholic. 50 years of age.
Barely conscious on a table in Emergency Room Camarillo Hospital. I hear the staff tell my wife I’m not going to make it. Incredible, this was a Saturday a Cardioligist was walking thru the emergency going home. He noticed the commotion and asked what going on. This guy went to work, within minutes had pics lit up on the screen. Doc asked my wife “You got Insurance?” “I will try and can fix this”. I was immediately moved to Oxnard Hospital.
30 years later that Doctor still with me. Not much at listening to people, but I have listened up pretty good to Cabrillo Cardiology.
All of this comes down to individual decisions each of us must make. I quit the cigarettes and a few other things, but went back to work.

My 2 year was Dec 31st. Feel great. It was actually easy peasy because I decided I was done. My brother died of lung cancer this year from smoking. He went quick. 2 months. He was 70. All 9 kids smoked at one time. Parents also. Now, no one does. Dad just died at 100 and mom is 96 doing great. Never too late to quit. The rest of us 8 kids are doing great and healthy

Smoked 1 pack a day of reds, too much beer along with being overweight. The last straw came while playing b ball with the kids. My body sent a preemptive message, not a heart attack but felt close to it. Stopped cold turkey. Smoke free for close to 20 years now.

Great job everyone for quitting. I HATE cigarettes. Both of my parents smoked. My Father passed from complications of Esophageal Cancer at 76. My Mother smoked until she lost a lung. She passed at age 76 from complications from trying to save her other lung. Put up with second hand smoke well into my 40’s from the family business.

Eating a lot can be good for you if done properly.

When you cook, keep it healthy. Lots of low fat protein with fruits, vegetables etc.

Snack all day too. Just make it fruits, vegetables or lightly salted nuts and grains etc. Keeps the metabolism going.

Brush your teeth frequently and the last few hours before sleep switch to apples or hi fiber. It helps to digest while you sleep and you will wake up hungry.

Smoking sucks. Been on and off, mostly on the last 35 years. Stopped for 3 years to start again because of stress caused by..........Dr's. and relatives.

Congrats to those who quit. I gave up cigarettes last year. Giving up coffee. But I'm still vaping. I enjoy the flavors available with the vape and like nicotine as a drug. No tar and about hundred other additives of cigarettes. Without the tar I have taste again and smell.

You da man.

You've succeeded where millions have failed. Keep that thought in mind as the smoke free days accumulate. Make it your motivation to never go back.

Congratulations.

Edit: I forgot to mention on January 1st, I started my 26th year as a non-smoker. I hope that is encouragement for those trying to find the willpower to quit. You can do it.
