So, on the LAST trip out of the weekend on the way in on the trophy run, I think I killed the boat. Once I got into the 5 mph zone I heard a horrible noise in the motor. One its never made before. Sounded like an exhaust leak but more metallic but on a 2 stroke outboard? I was able to limp it back on to the trailer and all but, I haven't been able to really get into it yet. I did fire it up on the trailer for a brief minute and saw some exhaust come out of the powerhead right in the general vicinity of the head gasket so, I HOPING that its just a blown head gasket and the bearings are fine and there is nothing cracked or anything like that. I'm going to dive into it a little more this week to see if I can figure more out.

If it is worse than a headgasket, I'm definitely done for the season. And, if thats the case.... anybody got a hook up on a 2.5 200+hp powerhead? :D lol!

Yeah, thats what I was planning on doing. Just wasnt able to do that yesterday.

I wasnt even able to throw the 26 on it at all yet. Too damn choppy out there this last weekend to really be able to test it so it looks like Im gonna have to wait til after I fix whatever the problem is to test it. lol! I did raise the motor though and it helped quite a bit. Now I can run neutral trim with another person in the boat. And, I was able to test out a 24P Laser II that I might buy from a friend for an all around prop and with the raised motor and the 24P with the shitty water and one other person in the boat, my uncle couldnt catch me in his Mod VP and that has NEVER happened before. :D

<----Yeah, not really shocked that the motor decided to break. lol!

Raised motor, were you getting enough H2O pressure?

Ive blown a couple head gaskets on it already. I thought I had fixed it the last time when I had the heads trued but maybe not? I definitely didnt melt it down or anything like that just cause it kept running and besides a VERY slight loss in power and the sound (kinda sounded like an exhaust leak), it still ran fine. Kinda like what it did when I blew them before. Wouldnt have enough power to get on plane but would idle fairly well. Im leaning towards either a blown head gasket or another gasket in the exhaust area (I dont know what that plate is called that's in the valley but I do know the exhaust gets directed down that direction); or a bearing (top or bottom); or, the worse case scenario, a cracked block. I think the latter of those is pretty unlikely though just cause it kept good water pressure and wasnt hot when I popped the cowling which was right after shutting it off on the trailer.

Could be a reed as well. Another simple thing to look at, that will cause symptoms similar to what you are seeing;)

Probably, but not always.

Pull the plugs, take a peak inside. Quick compression check will tell you which hole is having issues, and might even show you where (should leak more cold than hot).

Ive never ran a compression test on it anyways so, I might just do that.

Well lets hope its just a head gasket???? And not the high doller stuff i guess it could be the exhaust divider gasket that would be and easy fix!!:thumbsup

Yeah, exactly. Either one of those would be a quick and easy fix.

Did a compression test on the boat last week and compression is even on all cylinders and I couldnt hear any mechanical noise when the motor was just cranking over so Im thinking that its definitely a gasket. The last time I blew the head gaskets it would only act up once the motor warmed up. So, it still may be the head gasket. But it might be the exhaust divider gasket also. Ill probably just replace both anyways just to make sure. Well, as soon as Im not as broke as a joke!

Looking to have it back on the water and running for Labor Day cause I want to go use my trailer at Riverland for Labor Day at least.

Glad to hear it might not be the motor.
