Looks like a Banded Sand Snake. Not harmful and great for rodents.

Red touching yellow makes it a coral snake i believe. If so watch out.

Just a venomous sea snake, one that will kill you quite quickly, although I think they have very short fangs ----- so if you're really good, I think you've got half a chance of surviving :D

But I'd wear gloves just in case :p

The question should be, how the fuck did a sea snake get into your pool ??? Did you piss your neighbor off and he's a reptile caretaker at Sea World ?? :D

Eff snakes, I get that some do good and all that, but mine is by definition a phobia, a complete irrational fear, eff snakes.

Your right Tom but this is not a coral snake

The Arizona coral snake, clearly a separate species and genus, is found in central and southern Arizona, extreme southwestern New Mexico and southward to Sinaloa in western Mexico. It occupies arid and semiarid regions in many different habitat types including thornscrub, desert-scrub, woodland, grassland and farmland. It is found in the plains and lower mountain slopes from sea level to 5800 feet (1768 m); often found in rocky areas.[6]

This is what an arizona coral snake looks like:

Thank you. seems I was also right about the yellow and red bands touching. I haven't seen one yet but it is just a matter of time. I could not make out the colors in the pic.

I got the pool net and flung it over the fence. It hasn't moved in ten minutes. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1434042410.917186.jpg

I would have grabbed the shotgun and started pumping rounds into the pool.

California Kingsnake

Yep. I was running through the preserve in Costa Mesa a while back and one of those fuckers popped out of a bush in front of me. They're not venomous, but they'll still ruin a pair of underwear.

I suppose the fact it appeared to be lying on the bottom of the pool versus on top of the water, might be why it's not moving now --- or maybe just needs to warm up ?
Anyway, you tried to save a good snake to have around  Unless of course you tossed the fucker 20' in the air as it went over the fence ---- oops :D

Yeah F That! Another reason to import more good snakes. They eat the same food as the rattlers.

Do all snakes swim?

They can. As a kid back east when you were swimming and a cottonmouth swam through the swimming hole I was told to dive underwater until it passes. Apparently they can't bite underwater or they'll drown and they think you are something that will eat them, so the swim away quickly. :D

Shitting your shorts while holding your breath underwater sux! :p
