2 actually. 2" x 7' 5 1/4" solid metal rods. I don't know why I have them but....I have them.

Can anyone tell me what material this is or how I find out? They've been sitting in my shed since the mid 80's. Some type of stainless?

most scrap yards have a gun they use to tell what it is, take a hunk there and see if they will do it for you.

There's a million series of Stainless Steel, and there's no way to tell what it is just by looking at it.

if you had to find out, I'd take some small pieces to a local heat treat / steel shop, and they can do a rockwell test on it and tell you how hard it is.. From there they can tell you what it is, and what can be done with it..

For example if it's annealed 17-4, you can heat treat it to 950 / 1150 etc..

17-4PH condition 1150 one of my favorites for pump shafts. 316ss impeller with Nitronic rings vs 316ss case rings. Ohh yeh!

take a rod to a scrap metal place and tell them you have a couple hundred of them and want to know what material its made out of and how much you can get for them. They will be jumping all over to help you.
