So we have been searching for a cheap travel trailer to use in the summer time to park on a friends property...

We came across a deal that looked to good to be true... 2003 Hitchhiker II LS 29.5' fifth wheel $3000

I figured it was BS but you never know.

I was inquiring about the trailer for sale. Would you have more pictures of the inside you could share with me, if it is still available.

Thanks you
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,
This is Aida, I am glad you are one of the people interested in buying my 2003 Hitchhicker II LS 29.5ft 5th Wheel Travel Trailer. Let me give you a few details about it: very good shape, no mechanical issues, no scratches or dents, easy on maintenance costs, extremely reliable and it has never been involved in any kind of accidents(you can find the pictures attached to this email). I have a clear title, free of any liens or loans on it, under my name. The price was reduced at $3,000 because I just went through a divorce and when it has finished, I remained the owner and won the custody of my daughter. The camper brings me bad memories and some money would be helpful in this point of life. Besides, there are a lot of things which have priority now, so, this has to go.
If you are interested in buying it or if you have any questions, please reply to this email.

Sincerely,
Aida

We are very interest in this trailer. Where is it located? We are in Phoenix so if not local it would take a few weeks to get to you as our schedule is packed with work and family obligations.

Thank you
Jennifer

Dear Jennifer,
Thanks so much for getting back to me. As you know from my first email I am recently divorced. Along with my daughter decided that a fresh start would to us good, so we packed up and moved to my parent`s home in Omaha, NE trying to start a new life. The camper is here in at the shipping company, ready to be delivered to its hopefully future new owner. The deal is handled by eBay Money Back Guarantee program so I don't have much to do about it. I supposed to ship the camper to another buyer, then he told me that the loan wasn't approved (he already paid the shipping charges, so you`re lucky). You get free delivery and it will arrive at your address in 2 to 3 days. In addition, you will have 5 days to try out prior to making any purchase and if by any reason you find something you don't like about it you can send it back at my expense.
If you are ready to buy it, please reply with your whole name, address and phone # so I can notify eBay that you are selected as my buyer, and they will contact you right away with all the details about the transaction.

Thank you,
Aida

At this point I am calling total BS on the whole deal but she insists that it might be a real deal...

I look forward to hearing from you or eBay soon

This is the file that was attached. (Sorry for potato quality it's an exported PDF.)

Unless you've dealt with eBay this thing might look legit. But there are huge problems with it. Prepaid credit cards requested for payment, no eBay member number, typos, toll free phone number that is not associated with eBay, etc.

At this point I tell the wife to forget it and that it's BS and a scam.

Good Morning Jennifer,
How are things going on? I wanted to ask if you got the invoice and took a look at it. I already prepared everything for the shipping and as soon as I get eBay`s confirmation that you made the payment the shipping process will begin right away and in 3 days the camper will be at your door. You will try it out for 5 days, and if at the end you are happy with it, you can give them the "green" to release the money to me. Or if not, you can just send it back and get a refund, without paying for the shipping.
Let me know if there is something else that I can do from my end.

Thank you,
Aida

We ignore this message and received this one today:

Hi Jennifer,
I am a little disappointed in how you choose to finish this deal. I started the transaction because I trusted you and now is on pending because I didn't hear from you. If you don`t want to move forward, just tell me so i can sell it to someone else.

I would appreciate if you would just simply send me a message with your thoughts.

So I replied with this email from my account:

To: <[email protected]>

Dear Aida, (or whatever your real name is)

I'm Jennifer's husband.

We stopped dealing with you on the trailer because everything you sent to us makes you look like a scammer.

If eBay had anything to do with this transaction it would be handled via the eBay web site. You're fraudulently using eBay's logos and formats to try and make yourself look legitimate.

There is no seller on eBay with the name "Aida Roe" and if there were there would be a member number associated with it not just a name.

Your "eBay invoice" came from an email address associated with a web domain that is on a legal hold and is not associated with eBay in any way.

The phone number in your "eBay invoice" is not associated in any way with eBay.

I have reported both of your ads on Craigslist and they have been removed. I will make it a point to search out any more ads that you try to post selling this trailer and report them as well.

Should you like to continue this conversation further I'll be more than happy to include the FBI in the conversation since what you're trying to do amounts to interstate wire fraud and I have the proof.

Sincerely,
Mike

TL/DR:

Fuck scammers!

Help me eff with these people and call the phone number they gave: 888-505-6389. When I called a man with a very heavy middle eastern accent answered, "Dis is John, tank you for calling eBay. How may I hep you?"

Just make sure to *67 your phone number first to block caller ID.

Try taking the image of the trailer and do a reverse search online and see if you get other hits

Copying a few lines of the ad text and searching on Google usually does the job. They are too lazy to re-write the ad every time they re-list it in another state.:thumbsup

I found at least a dozen other ads using the same pictures and reported them as prohibited to Craigslist yesterday. I'll search again today :D
