Congrats on the upgrades. Gonna be even more badass when it’s done.
I’m surprised my wife not only agreed to buying our current boat but didn’t leave me because of it yet. I told her it’s only a little bigger and a little more gas each weekend. 😬. She doesn’t ever complain when cruising down the lake. I take a few shots paying for the annual maintenance and rebuilds though.
What kind of boat?

Sorry, Eticket.
We towed our Magic with her Expedition. That didn’t work out as planned. Upgraded the tow vehicle 6 mos later. 😬. Boat ran great for the next 4-5 seasons. Did the top ends on the 525’s 2 seasons ago, rebuilt the drives last season. I’ve asked the BCM team to take it easy on me this year. A 3rd year of throwing money at it would hurt.

Any updates on this ?
D1 in havasu is putting the finishing touches on her as we speak. Got to take it out this past weekend and shake her down. A couple of odds and ends need finishing and a few small efi system tweaks and we are good to go!

Here’s a video of the sound of the newcam. She’s pushing close to 1k hp now.

Should be a fun summer!

So the motor, drive, and hydraulic steering is taken care of.

But the wife was looking at the interior of the boat and the checkered pattern on the original interior wasn’t doing it for her.

As I got my boat fix taken care of via horse power, I decided to keep the missus happy and discuss a new interior.

We went by Renee’s place at riverside boat Upholstery and chatted with him about what we think would be a good direction.

Since I’m not too bright, we bit the bullet and decided to go with a brand new interior from the carpet up.

Picked her up this afternoon. Stoked how it came out.

The isotta wheel, livrosi guages, and new shifter are getting installed when the drive goes back on next week. View attachment 1352231 View attachment 1352232

Well after reading the thread I think you should just rename the thread “just another performance boat”😂. this is what boaters do to keep themselves out f trouble.

Yea I got tired of it to be honest. My HTM was ALWAYS something, Not big things, but just enough to piss me off! I get it, part of the club, but I tapped out.

The Daytona is looking AWESOME! Its definitely an addiction :)

Two seasons with a used high performance boat is a blessing, I recently bought a boat with twin Mercury 700s. A shit ton of receipts came with the boat and top end rebuilds were done 275 hours ago. Essentially the previous long term owner took care of it with an open check book. None the less, my offer (and purchase price) was based on the fact that full tear downs and rebuilds are going to be necessary. I’m already scheduling it for January. I’ve had a couple of good trips with it already (and hope to finish the season with it) however, I feel as though if it’s not a near new boat (with very few hours), and you don’t address the motors (with a top notch engine builder), you’re destined for trouble

Seems like this has been the case with 5 of our last 8 boats we have owed spanning the last 30 years or so..

Did I miss the update pics?
Well I’ve been having so much fun running her this summer that I forgot to update this thread so here goes.

After we got her back from the interior shop it was back to d1 to have the dash refreshed.

New Hardin marine off shore controls, livorsi guages and an isotta steering wheel rounded out the dash/interior upgrades.

Decided to add a sea strainer while we were at it and work to clean up some of the previous builders rigging.

Have hit triple digits in this thing and am going to start experimenting with different props. Although the lady likes it around 80 or so so maybe not completely mercenary.

The mid range acceleration on this boat is wild and while we may not be the fastest, she can def reel people in without any problems.

Not having a blower scoop in this old of a boat and that the gen 5 blower makes so little noise most people that pull up and assume there’s not much under the hood.

Makes for a fun time when the wife gets the need for speed and does the motion to push the sticks forward and blow some doors off.

All in all I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. We get a lot of compliments on the old girl and it’s fun to talk to other 25 Daytona owners about the build and their plans for their boats as well.

The last item to do if I ever really lose my mind is upgrade the lower end of the motor. If we do we’re gonna turn it into a 565 and then raise the rpm limiter and up the boost to 8-9 pounds.

That will really get this train moving but I’ve learned that at 100 and above with no windshield, it’s a chaotic and loud affair. So is that necessary? I suppose when the engine gets tired I can evaluate that.

Only downside to this whole build is the boat math. I’ve got so much into this thing I’ll lose my ass if I ever sell it. My havasu house garage can maybe fit a 27 Daytona, so perhaps I’ll stick with this boat for many years to come.

It was a lot of fun to make this boat our own and build a reliable motor, drive package with a new interior.

The last item missing is a stereo at this point. But Between sailing the bvi in March, buying/fixing/furnishing/decorating the new havasu house, and upgrading all this shit on the boat, we’ve decide that is an off season project.

Funny enough, between the sound of the boat when underway, and that wherever we park there are 50 other stereos going, I’ve kind of rethought the necessity of it. But that’s probably me rationalizing the fact that it’s ok to not have one this summer 🤣

If you see us out on the water come say hi. Boat is named “big Al” after my late father who got us into boating the Colorado river many years ago.

-cheers

Badass man! Really love how it turned out.

Does the wind deflector help at all? On my boat around 90 the wind is loud and really tough to hold for a long time.

They work at cruising speeds under 65. They actually work really well. But when we get on it the air forces them down. I’ve been told I can tighten them up to keep ‘em up when going fast but haven’t messed with them yet to see.

Although I may next time out as at 100 you get the pins and needle feeling on your cheeks.

@pkrrvr619 -Your boat interior turned out really nice!

I have a 25' Eagle, and my only complaint with the boat is the lack of space between the back seat and the front seats. Did you make any modifications when you redid your interior to get a little extra room back there? Looks like your front seats are on new seat bases, do the seats move forward or backwards at all?

Funny I did the exact opposite. With the longer steering stem I wanted a bit more room so I moved the front seats back.

Couple inches less leg room for the back passengers but I don’t cart many people around so screw em 🤣

Well let's update this thread!

After a fun summer ripping the boat around I felt as though there was still some left in the tank as we went conservative on the boost.

Funny enough when I was at the loto shootout and it rained for hours I ended up sitting next to Alexi and chatting with him for a long time about all things boating. he knows my engine builder and said for us to stop being pussies and put a smaller pulley on the blower and let er rip.

Taking his advice we went down a size and holy shit it woke the boat up. Need to finalize and optimize the tune on it but god damn this thing is a runner now. The mid range acceleration is just wild.

I know I am not the fastest but with no windshield anything into the 100s is a fairly chaotic affair for extended periods of time so we are propping it more for mid range and not top end.

It is nice to have no blower showing so other boats pull up on us all the time and try to show off. we usually give em a few boat lengths before we drop the hammer and reel em in.

Only downside to this was the change was done at the end of summer so boating season is getting sparse. Whomever said boost is addicting was lying....

How much hp would you guess the motor is at?

With the data that we are seeing from the ECU and all that we are guessing it is knocking on 1000 hp's door if not already there.

When you did the scx swap did you also did the scx lower or used the sc?

Love the build. Seen it couple times on the water and it looks great.

Stuck with the -2 sc lower as the boat likes that lower with the x dimension it has.

Appreciate the kind words! Next time ya see it come say hi.

Your dcb looks killer as well!

at least with twins you're spreading out the load over 2 drives/props so getting on plane is easier....always roll into it unless you want prop blowout
This was the 22nd summer for my 28 Daytona. Imco Extreme drives with -2 Sportmaster lowers spinning 36 Berc Bravo props

0 Drive failures and only thrown 2 blades over 22 seasons. think I would have had many more failures with a single drive setup

My flip up wind screens are good to about 115 and then they start blowing down. Any tighter than they currently are and you can't flip them down
I always turn them down when we get to the no wake zones to get a little bit of breeze. They make a YUGE difference. 😁

Love your M26. The first cat I drove was an M26 with a 700+ hp NA 540. That was what convinced me to build my 28 Daytona.
Best boating decision I ever made ;)🤣

Thanks man. I love it thats its bigger than the 22 but I'm still kinda up in the air about selling it. If i can get it to cruise at 80mph ill be happy. When I cruise at 80 the temps shoots up. So maybe ill get a new oil cooler or add another one. Not sure what ill do. Last weekend I took the 22 out and cruise from the channel to springs 80mph all the way back. No one was on the water of course for me to do that in a smaller boat.

Ya, what engine RPM are you running at 80? What oil temp are you getting up too? I have the big Teague oil coolers that open up at 190*.
They help get the condensation out of the oil that way from what I was told. My oil temps get up to 220 after I've been hauling ass for a few miles, maybe 225 on a 110* day, but the oil cools back down to 190* pretty quickly. If you have a small oil cooler, I highly recommend getting the big one.

Your 26 is a great size for Havasu except for the big weekends. Just keep an eye out for Waketracktor holes in the water. those are brutal when you hit them over 70 🙃

Are you going to replace the 26 with something bigger?

I have high volume, high pressure pumps.....so at over 5000 RPM the gauges are still reading 60-70 PSI at 225*
not positive what it is at idle, but I think they are still over 40

the oil pans are the large Gil Offshore ones. I think they hold 10-12 quarts and with the big oil coolers and all the oil lines it's like 12-14 quarts each motor
Oil is spensive :(

Jerry May rigged it back in the day at Eliminator
