Any inmates affected by this? I don't think @C-Ya is affected. Probably getting some rain though, right?

I took this pic….. just now

I sold my Jeep last week to a full time retired motorhome traveler. He called me yesterday from Georgia and said the Jeep towed fantastic but now is bracing for a hurricane. I said “well that soft top will most likely leak with gail force winds.” We chuckled, but I suggested he bail out of Helene’s path.

I'm about 100 miles inland in AL, calling for 50 mph winds and 4-6" of rain. Basically a summer afternoon thunderstorm for us.

One hit a few years back and was fast moving - Still a CAT 1 when it got to my house around midnight. Water in my pool was white capping. No power for about 16 hours with that one.

If my kid was still at MTF I'd be down there now moving him and camper out of harms way. Cairo, GA will take a pretty good hit it looks like.

Gadsden area. Been here almost three year. Not the least worried, been seeing opposing predictions as long as I've been here. We'll see.

Destin Florida here. Not concerned at this point. Tomorrow afternoon we'll see where things are. Weather Channel had us 8 feet under water on Monday, and now all we're slated to get is some rain. Every year it's the same deal. At the end of the day it seems predicting the exact path is like predicting the stock market.

I hear you……. Every hurricane we are inundated with the worst case scenarios. When those don’t happen, people become complacent. The problem is……… every now and then, they are absolutely correct.

By the time hurricane Irma came, I too thought the news was over the top. Then my entire neighborhood got wiped out. It took almost 5 months, just to remove the debris. Luckily, I was one of the only homes in the neighborhood that had minimal damage.

My pool was white capping too!

You will be fine - A good bit farther North than me.

Talked to Naples family this morning. They just anticipate some flooding and possible power loss. Basically not very concerned about it. Grandma is maybe 1½ miles inland, and Uncle is probably 2 miles inland.

Looks like the panhandle is gonna get it the worst.

Here is how I am affected and every single resident of Florida.

Every time a Hurricane hits anywhere in Florida, everybody’s insurance goes up.

I can’t imagine it going higher than the stratosphere it currently resides! But I said that last year, and we went up 20% since then. 20% of a low number doesn’t sound like much, but when it’s 20% of a number already residing in the stratosphere, it takes a real whack!

All the news channels are giving a lot of coverage. A LOT

However, it’s is not nonstop coverage. That only happens when you are in or near, the cone of concern.

We joking say here…….. If the weather newscaster has his jacket off, tie loose, and sleeves rolled up…….. it’s SERIOUS

Have a buddy who recently sold in LHC and bought a home in Sugar Loaf Key, adjacent to KW. He and his wife are there and posting the Hurricane Parties are going off in full force.
Now we are talking! I love a good hurricane party!

My first hurricane party was for hurricane Matthew. I lived in downtown Orlando. My wife and I left the party around 5am, and walked home. The walk was like something out of the apocalypse. All the businesses are boarded up. It looked like a ghost town. It was surreal! We actually enjoyed it. We did not see a single soul on our long walk home. We were drunk too!

Then we went home and waited for the power to go off, which never happened. It was hardly an event. The next hurricane was the same. By the time that Irma was coming, I didn’t even make ice. I cannot say that was a mistake because our power was out for 2 weeks, and no ice would have lasted that long. We moved into a hotel for approx 2 weeks.

The fun thing about a hurricane party……… it don’t close at 2am. It’s over when it’s finally time to head for shelter! lol

Have a vacation plan to go see my friends in Alabama for a week. They are dodging this hurricane, but they are getting hit with one next week when I’m supposed to be there.

My first hurricane party was for Dennis in the late 90s. Watching the weather channel we were surely going to die. Then someone slides a paper under the door of the hotel that says something along the lines of "hello we are about to have a hurricane. Please bring your patio furniture in off your balcony and close your drapes in the event of broken glass. We apologize for any inconvenience. Enjoy your stay." Ok, maybe we aren't going to die after all.

I bring in the patio furniture and I see the bar by the sea wall. They have closed the storm shutters facing the ocean but the other side is open and people are going in. I tell my mom I'm going down to the bar. She says your going where? I point. She laughs and says ok let's go. First time I got hammered with my mom. We had a great time.

I’m in Sarasota. Had hoped to get some clean surf before the wind shows up but looks like we’re gonna run out of daylight about the time the swell gets good.
We’ll just watch it go by but my dad lives SE of Tallahassee so he’ll have a decision to make soon.

My sister and her family are on the West Coast of Florida, along with other extended family. They are a few miles inland, so they should fare OK. If this storm does indeed make landfall near Big Bend, and the storm surge is what they are predicting, it will be catastrophic. That entire area of the state is fairly low in elevation. They are predicting 12-20'+ of storm surge north of the Anclote River area, all the way up and around Big Bend to Apalachicola. That's a TON of seashore to take that kind of surge.

As the storm continues northward, it will increase in energy due to the warm waters in the Gulf of Mexico. It will essentially double in strength and wind speeds overnight. I don't think it will be as bad as Katrina was in New Orleans......but Helene will definitely leave a mark.

Batten down the hatches folks, it's going to be a long weekend.

We are near the coast in Venice FL, but we are on a cruise and going to Curacao today. We have friends at our house now as they evacuated their place at the park we go to in the winter. Our place has all the hurricane and flood protection.

I’m 23 miles from KW. Heavy rains last night. High winds, maybe peaked around 50mph. We dodged another one here but folks further up better be ready for anything. Good luck. Tides only up maybe 18” here.

It’s blowing pretty good right now in SoFlo. I’d say it feels like 30mph sustained, with gusts higher.

It’s only 9:30am now. Our main impact is predicted at noon. Up to 55mph winds predicted.

Just an up date from Pompano Beach

Cocoa Beach doesn't extend four miles inland! That would put you in Cocoa or Rockledge! ❤️

Man I've got family all over that area!! My parents still have a condo right down the beach from the Pier, just north of Ron Jons. 👍

My buddy is on the Coffe county disaster response team in AL. They are bracing for some flooding and down lines. But they were briefed yesterday that another Hurricane is likely next weekend and will be a direct hit.

I’m watching both closely as we may have to cancel our flights and come up with plan B vacation.

I live 4 miles west of the Ocean. Most people know the Cocoa Beach name so I use that as a reference. I will be more descriptive next time.

Buddy in KW-Sugar Loaf said it was similar to a Havasu summer monsoon. He mentioned no storm surge.

Wind has picked significantly in the last 20 minutes. The intracoastal is starting to whitecap. My wife and saw a pod of dolphins heading north. The largest pod we have seen on the intracoastal. Sorry I didn’t get a pic.
