After a long wait, finally moving forward with our Howard 255 build! Met with Mike on Monday and discussed designs. Signed off on the design today and couldn’t be more excited. Very excited for this process and love how the rendering turned out. I’ll be posting updates throughout the build. Lucky to live close to Howard so photos shouldn’t be a problem.

Good luck with the build and the rendering looks great!

I wish that model was being produced in way larger volume than it currently is. Such a sweet design that makes more sense on a lot of lakes across the Country...

Thank you and post some pictures of your boat. I don’t think I have seen it yet. Hopefully we will be in the mold once you are out!

Merc Racing 520. Nothing too crazy, but Mike said it should perform well.
520 is by far the best HP/$$ upgrade

Here are a few progress pictures. We were in the mold for about a month. It came out of the mold sometime this week and couldn’t be happier with how she turned out. Looking forward to progressing through this process.

Can’t wait to see her shine in the sunlight.

Designing the interior soon but we’re still undecided if we want to go the Alcantara route.
Colors really compliment one another. Looking forward to your progress.

What he said!!! ^^^ that’s going to be hard to miss in the water. I’d say go real mellow on interior, couple shades of grey and a hint of either orange or blue.

Beautiful boat. I really like the look of Alcantara. I was recently talking with an interior shop and they were saying that in their opinion it does do well long term. Just something to consider. Anxious to see the final outcome. So far its a homerun.

Thank you for the advice. How has everything been since you took delivery?
LOVE IT, best part for us is how well it handles the rougher water! and how quiet it is inside yet sounds nasty outside.

A few pictures Mike sent me. Motor is in and they’re in the rigging process. Final design for the interior is done. Inner dark gray portion is alcantara and the rest is Vinyl.

thank you. Here are some finished product pictures. It’s actually gray in person but looks closer to white in the photos. Alcantara in the middle vinyl on the outside. Motor is in and Rigging is coming along. Interior should hopefully be in this week.

Is it floating?
Not yet! It will hopefully be done next week. We made it out to the Howard Meet-Up this weekend in Havasu, but there wasn’t one 255 there. We both need to be out there next year. It was a great event/dinner.

Lake test today with Mike and Hamlet. What an unbelievable boat and experience. Back to the shop for a final look over then we pick it up on Friday. Gator Step will be installed next week and hoping the new wheels/tires/fenders come in soon for the trailer. Looking forward to the first River trip this weekend.

It was delivered with the wrong fenders, wheels, and tires. Everything should be in soon and will be changed out. No biggie.

That's to bad, cause would love to hear from him!

However, anyone who currently owns or has owned a Howard 255vtx that would chim in would be tremendous.

Well we are nor cal and our go to "big" lake is don pedro which does not have the vast open water of havasu so I don't think we get as "rough" of chop as you get, we can however get some decent white caps in the afternon at times, just don't think they are the same. With that said it eats up what we have nicely and I can say I dont back down from any--plow pushing, roll bar, wake board boats artificial tidal waves. It cuts them smooth but most impressive the boat is just solid, no flex, no give no rattles. For havasu @MeCasa would definitely have the better opinion. Sorry, thats all I got.

One add, the rear swim platform being so low to the water does take some getting used to in throttling down and beaching. I try and turn at least a full 90 if not more when coming off throttle with any real momentum, If we are either camping on the lake or on a house boat I tie it up with the nose out if we are somewhere near the open channel just so as not to worry about taking any big rollers up over the swim step?? Maybe overly cautious, don't know?????
