I was just in meetings about California power a few weeks ago. FERC quietly approved a tie in for a Mexican lng export facility as they can collect fees for this. The long run implications for this are once completed the dirt cheap gas in West Texas will have a other outlet and California will have to compete price wise with Asia to keep the gas here. California still gets roughly 40% of their generation from natural gas and the vast majority of that is when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow.

Put another way someone took out the right to send natural gas for power generation to California for 100 years. Why would they do this if solar and wind will solve all problems.

Haven't had an electric bill in 6 years. Polamar installed 10.3k system for my 2k ft single story house.
Since the rate change I'm at $960 owed, with 3 months to go for my year end. So It'll close to $2k at the year end bill.
I do keep my house cold. 69 at night and 70 in day, but the price increase is f'nin crazy.

Having just renewed our 2T and 4T units for substantial $$. Our kWh usage did go down with the more efficient units. But with the increased rates, we still went up about $30 on the monthly charge. Overall good news - the new units are noticeably cooler.

I have SDG&E in So Orange County. Pool pump runs 10 hours/day in summer... was averaging about $300 most months......$450 in August & September
Spent $15k on solar (approx $10k after tax write-off) in 2022 and haven't had an electric bill in 2 years.
I have a $200 credit on my second true up date, so less than 3 full year payback for me for solar.

Looking at doing in LHC now that my past 2 bills have been $250/month (they are $100/month over last year) and I haven't installed my pool or garage mini splits yet.
Mini splits going in later this month and pool by January

Anybody that doesnt have solar is subsidizing anyone on nem2. Nem2 pays retail rate for the power supplied to the grid by solar uses. What business pays retail rates for what they sell, none they would be out of business. In effect the grid becomes the storage system for solar and all the other users are paying for it.

Nem2 is a ponzi scheme where your payback is on the back of others. Its socialism and you are falling hook line and sinker.

If you beliece in solar invest in a battery storage system and be free of the grid

Laughable; They push green by flattening hundreds of thousands of acers of land and killing everthing that lives on it as the man-buns and Tansgenders cheer. . Then comes home solar and the promise to buy back power and cut your energy cost... Then it's the old switcheroo. . We need to charge more because of all this and the man buns and Transgender go silent. .

You ran your AC 85% more, did you think the bill would not change?

you might have jumped into a different tier.

And by leveling everything in sight, and changing from natural soil to impervious structure, They somehow think this does not raise the temps. and cause warming?

I got solar a year ago and haven’t had a bill since. Best decision I made. We were paying 500 to 600 a month from may to September. The rest of the year bill average was 200. Palomar did 36 panels on my house that I pay 200 a month on.
$200 a month for how many years?

What happens if you need roof repairs? Just curious.

Had solar on a new build jan 2019 and apparently after about 4 years of the exact ac thermostat schedule and same ceiling fans running 24/7 this is the month of the year i owe edison 375$.

This would be month 1 of 12 of my tou rate they have us on and i will say i have never paid more then 12-30 bucks to edison in the past, my account claims my usage is up 39% this month. This shit is crazy many friends are saying the same thing. I never complained on my solar because it was only 72$ a month and i always made enough in the winter fall to cover the rest of the year.
But here we go! Hold on tight people!

Money says if and when he needs a roof, or a repair. It's by a licensed electrician named by the solar Co. and no one else. Panels will be removed, reinstalled and connected by the solar Company's contractor at the homeowners expense.

For a pre set price. My Sister needs a roof. House had solar when they bought it. I think my BIL said it's $500 or a $1000 not more. Need to schedule them to remove. Re roof and they re install. I can text him tomorrow and ask. But plan is in 2 months when it cools down.

The handful of companies that came to my door lately, when I do the math it looks like about 10 + years to break even , that's Havasu.

From what I’ve found. It’s from 175-250 per panel to remove and reinstall.

We were in the new house 20 days last month in southern Florida. Bill was $55.00, so about $75. Yes it is insulated well. Temp at 73. Our park model that isn't insulated as well do to the Lanai with no insulation temp at 75 was 120.

Lake Havasu city. 1800 sq’ house with a pool.
Installed a 11.5 KW solar power system. With cash discount and gov rebate the total cost was $18000.
It took a little figuring out the best way to take advantage of the power production but I think we have a pretty good handle on it at this point.
As it stands right now we get six months of zero bill and building credits, the other six months of seriously reduced billing.
Several of the months that we actually have a bill to pay are less than $50 with one month during the summer peak (after burning up all our credits for the year) barely topping $100.
According to my calculations total payback on the system is going to be 5-6 years (with the rising costs of electric it could be shorter).
Overall I’m very pleased with the system.

2 neighbors just recently had re roofs

One was $500 panel
The other was
$150 panel

Roofers have referrals and so do the solar companies

Need to look at your warranties in the original contract

How long ago did you installl it? How many panels did you get and who did you go thru?

You own it right? Prices definitely aren't going down for electric, so it will most likely pay off sooner and you get to enjoy A/C whenever you want without having to worry as much about the bill. And if you sell the house it increases your value ;) As Charlie Sheen said "WINNING".

$1,000 bucks won’t cover the labor costs to remove and re install. Typically 2 guys 2-3 days

1 day demo
Day to 2 day to re install

Loan is only 15k the rest of it I paid cash for. I believe it’s 10 years but will pay off a lot sooner. My house is relatively new so I should not need a roof for at least 10 years.

It will be 3years in Oct. I believe it’s 28 400W panels. We went through Havasu Solar for purchase and install, they are great to deal with. Yes we own outright, it was a significant discount paying up front.

I know a friend that bought a house with solar.
Three years later he needs a roof and is qualified to remove and reinstall the panels, but was at the mercy of the solar company.(They would not use him) arguing they could not control his work even if they inspected it.
I know there are many scenarios, that happened to be my friends experience, He finally relented and had the roof done.

I don't know the company or his contract. I also don't know what it finally cost him, I just know he was frustrated about it. You are right, it was on him for not reading the fine print.

Is there any solar install that lets you disconnect from the grid? It’s ludicrous that you have to supply power to the company who if they did their job right in the first place wouldn’t be short on providing the necessary power to all, and you have to pay for it.

The power company should be paying to put solar on your house and it shouldn’t cost you a thing, if you’re forced to let them benefit from it.

Screw solar, I’m never falling for that scam.

But wait. I thought Gavin Newsom secured millions of dollars from the federal government to lower Californian's energy bills.
Did you see his speech last week where the reporter questioned him and said his bill was still more expensive even with all the things Neesom was spewing. Newsom just replied “no it’s not”.

Upgraded our 4T and 2T heat pumps for considerable $$. The new units are more efficient and use less kWh. But, with the increase in Unisource rates, our bill is about $30 more.

You could do a grid independent system but it would probably be cost prohibitive. You would have to have a pretty big battery storage system, a priority disconnect switch to isolate your system from the grid and your solar array would probably need to be at least 50 percent larger and that may present a problem running out of rooftop space.Your local power provider may take exception to you being completely isolated and could potentially remove their infrastructure so if you ever wanted to reconnect to the grid it would be a new hook-up (hugely expensive).

I have been paying $10 or less a month since Palomar installed my system in 2019. System paid for itself in 4 years. Glad I got it installed under NEM 1.0. When I did have issues with a panel this year, Andy and Palomar took care of it. When SCE nets me out I am given a check that covers the monthly minimum I have to pay every month.

I met with an inmate this morning...idk their screen name I don't ask when people call me..im there to give you good advice whether its via my channel or another..

They gave me a quote from a lease/ppa dealer that was unbelievable on first look..it wasn't a "fuckin", they were actually given a PPA/Lease that I didn't say WTF on... in all of my years in the industry it was one of the "firsts" that I seldom have anymore..( I know the leadership of said company well, and would not hesitate to recommend them, which I did).

A cash deal isn't in the cards for them, and nothing financed compared...I directly told them to sign the non-escalated version.. It was within $1/mo of the rosiest finance option I could provide to an inmate pulling every string I have...

As I told them when they called me..I'd tell you straight and I did... if this is your forever house..sign that. Would have loved the deal but the vendor involved had the superior deal plain and simple..

no to the first question...that was a landmark case decided in Florida long ago...

I'd explain it to you...but your last sentence throws you in the group I won't help...it makes sense for some, not others...and there are soo many ways to do it..

$0.25 w to remove, $0.35 to reinstall with materials needed for most jobs...did a lot of insurance work and that's the central number...

@NicPaus if you wind up doing your sisters deal or need a referral/materials lmk. I'd send you to to ABC out of national city for racking materials...James the managing partner is a good friend, and very fair.. I know a number of installers that specialize in r&r as well.

I never step into Andy's space and will always decline contacts inside of it..outside of it, if I can't help I will give you referrals of who can for sure. One of my best friends/big wave surfer from NS does LA south along the coast..I usually refer to him. He's beyond fair etc..used to be a math teacher in Wailua before we all go into solar way back when lol. I spent years in distribution so know most of the good players.
