From 1973. A friend on mines Dad owned a lot there and that was the only way to get on, other than staying at Big River Inn. You think it's quiet now, back then it was glass everywhere.

Did you come out often? Do you happen to recognize the boat in my icon? It was great back then, they had the ponds all the kids played in, in '83, '84 the water came all the way up to the grass, lots of good memories there. I'll have to dig some old pictures up.

The first time I went to Big River the large trees along the river at Rio del Sol were so small they had to put chicken wire over the trees to keep the rabbits from eating them. It was 89-90 I think.

Lots of good memories.....I have been going there since I was about 5 years old....so 1978. My parents owned a lot (Dad now owns a house and still has the lot) along with my grandparents who owned a place. In the late 70's early 80's the grandparent's leased/ran the restaurant in the park below Big River Inn (back when they had gas on the docks).

I learned to ski right across from the restaurant back when there use to be a nice beach area......

Parents have loads of pictures from back in the day.....The place has changed a lot over the years. The place is nothing like what is use to be....

I remember gas at the dock, we used to put a ski rope on that dock and use a surfboard against the current. Ate at the restaurant many times, do you remember the ponds? We used to call the small one the pee pond. I learned to ski there too with the boat in my icon in the 70's. The most fun was tying 10 or more truck inner tube tires together and floating from the bridge in Parker to Big River. I really haven't been back, other than a couple drive byes, since '89. I do miss those days...

Swam in those ponds for many years.......did the Parker bridge to the park at Big River many, many times. We make the drive from Bakersfield to Big River several times a year....My kids love it out there and are now at the age I was when I first started going their with my parents.

Found a picture of the pond, I need to get to my mom's house, she has a tone of pics from the 70-80's. More stories,, my brother and I used to stack quarters up on the train track, which were right behind out house, we always thought that were going to derail the thing. The guy on the caboose would always wave to us. I think the record train we counted was 120 cars.

Chicken wire is still there, it's so the beavers don't get em.
Been in the park since 1990. I was 8 then. Matter of fact I'm sitting here now

Chances are if you have a house here, I've rode a three wheeler on your property, we tore big river up when we were kids. To you still have to own property or know someone to launch?

nope. but you dont have to pay to use the park if you pay your property taxes. non-residents pay $25 for vehicle and boat

You get two stickers a year, and you can buy a third one for $35, use the park anytime they're open..
