Still legal here in Idaho for all ages to ride in the bed of a truck. Been doing it all summer with the kids and they love it!! Short trips from the camp ground to the lake. 🇺🇸

Same in TN. A lot of times you see the dog in the bed. A week or 2 ago I see a kid in the bed. No big deal, but when I passed him the dog was in the passenger seat. LOL

Haha! Back during the Palm Springs spring break days, a buddy of mine welded in seats and belts in the bed of his 62 Ford off road truck so we could cruise the strip. We got pulled over a few times, but had a great time.

Jumped in the Ranchwagon with mom and dad and ran down to the local Green Arrow to pick up a new picnic table. Dad drops the tailgate, flipped the table over and slides it in. Tells me to climb up in there on it and sit down. My mom looks at him like WTF! My dad looks at me and says oh yeah if it slides out hold on.

Yep many times. We use vans with ladder racks for our business, 2 miles from house to shop, Remember one time had something on roof that needed to be held on, I think plywood, so just lay on the front half hold on to the rack.
Another time had something too big to fit in a 69 bronco from town 5 miles, so dad laid it on tailgate I sat just inside bed holding it, he turned around to check on it drifted slightly right and poor bronco steering hooked the edge of pavement and pulled off the road and over the bank, rolled it twice…

Oh the humanity! Couldn’t begin to tell how many miles I logged in the back of an el Camino stuff in with the dirt bikes.

I was just thinking about that...my uncle, mom, brother, and I used to drive every summer from Whittier to Redding (about 10 hours) in my uncles El Camino, my mom and uncle would share the driving and we would rotate who would sit in the bed with the ATC...

So does this mean I’m the only kid that road in the package tray in the back window?😂
You not alone. Going cross country in 76. Mother with three kids in a 76 4 door Nova for 3 months. You got to get creative. The 11 year old got the back seat since he was the biggest. The 9 year old middle kid got the front seat with mom and the youngest at 7 got the package tray. We didn’t need no stinking seats belts back then. LOL

My buddies and I survived my brothers indycar driving habits going from upland to newport beach every summer riding in the back of his datsun truck sitting in low beach chairs. We had a blast watching him narrowly pass cars on the 91/55 fwy's. That was good livin right there....haha

Man, I must have moved to the Redneck proving grounds. That type of setup is all over out here! Night rabbit, coyote, racoon etc and daytime deer or antelope hunting rigs. I've seen Rangers set up that way, Pickups, Suburbans with 3/4 of the roof cut off all set up that way.

When I was 4-7 My dad raced a Howard Hydro, and pulled it with an 80 chevy shortbed with a campershell, and a 4x8 sheet of ply wood with carpet on it where my sister and I would ride. The rides to Firebird and Parker from Chino were brutal.

"How is this legal?"

Tell me you're from California without telling me you're from California 🤣

Funny thing is...

It actually wasn't illegal when I was a kid!

We couldn't afford crew cab dualies back then, so my friends El Camino got the job done when we ALL wanted to go somewhere!

Beach. River. Mountains. You name it. Somebody had to ride in the back!

When I finally got my 3/4 ton GMC, we would smash 4 peeps in front.

Homo? Naw, everyone just wanted AC!!!

Still had a few peeps in the back though...

Sucked to be them coming home from the river. 😎😁
