Aside from using a spam blocking app, you can't really stop them. But you sure can have fun with it!

I've started answering in all sorts of stupid voices and accents, then seeing how long I can keep them on the phone. Some of them get really mad, and it's glorious.

YouMail is an excellent spam call app.

I pay for the premium myself so I can get transcribed voice mails that I can read surreptitiously while I'm stuck in meetings.

It will detect and hang up on spam calls, you can also set it to play the “this number is no longer in service” voicemail, and if you let it know your contacts then its pretty aggressive handling calls that are not. Even has a feature where it requests unknown callers to pin-check themselves which most robocaller systems can't handle so it weeds them out that way.

Other than that, don't answer unknown calls, let it go to voicemail and if its important they will leave a message. Most spammers just hang up when they get the voicemail.

Grandma Axehandle gets scam attempts from all kinds of angles all the time.

We’ve taken over her finances above $200 and she never answers the phone. Out going calls and voicemails incoming only.

Unless you know who it is, let it go to voicemail.

Didn't your parents teach you to never talk to strangers? 🤷‍♂️

After you answer, keep yelling at them to speak English, now that gets funny and they finally hang up

This is what I do/use: Verizon Call Filter app, don't answer, and block spam numbers if same # keeps calling. Seems to work fairly well.

It's crazy how many I get. I usually just answer I live in a apartment and don't make those decisions.

Otherwise I want to add a pool in my basement.

When I get the spam text's saying things like "hey do you want go hang out this weekend?" Most of the time I'll just delete them but sometimes I'll reply with something like. "I'm still in prison, send money, I'm low on smokes"..

The only way I got them to stop was by saying the person they are trying to get ahold of has died. That slowed them down for a few weeks. Then after they called back and I accidentally answered the call when asked if I was Mr. So and so I said no this is a new phone number to me. That has slowed them down for now.

I never answer a call that doesn't provide an ID I recognize, but in many cases gave up on the call blocking due to the constant rotation of the "Spoofed" numbers.
When it's your own number calling you, you know something's wonky. 🥴

unknown number calls = Answer and immediately mute.... you can tell pretty quickly they are a spammer by how long it takes them to greet you, then how long they will stay on the line with their auto dialer.

Then block the number/report spam through your phone app.

I use my cell for business so I can’t just not pick it up. If I hear a call center voice, I simply hang up.

We can pretty much thank the highly educated marketing executives here in this country for this bullshit.

I read a post on here not long ago where a member was using call centers in India or wherever to do marketing like this and thought it was a good idea.

When I get those calls I usually try to see how far up the food chain I can get with their managers. And then when I get to the top I tell them don't you hate when you have employees that don't know how to answer phone calls? Then I tell them if you don't waste my time I won't waste yours how much money did you lose from all of that?

Years ago, I answered the phone in a little kids voice. Ended up asking the guy "Do you want to talk to my Mommy?" after a brief chat. Yes please put her on, then I yelled in a kids voice "Mommy the man on the phone said he wants to touch my pee pee"

He hung up and never called back - Wife unit about fell off the couch laughing.

Most of the time anymore I just scream at the callers until they hang up, if/when I answer.

Call blocking is useless since they spoof numbers. Like others, I've had some luck answering (after I see about 10 numbers unrecognized numbers from the same area code in as many hours...) and f'in with them and wasting as much of their time as possible; that seems to get me off of their lists faster than any other method that I've tried...

It must work for some or they would quit the doing it. When i worked for IBM i had a couple customers that had AS/400's that did the dialing for them.

I don't answer the phone unless I know who it is. If I feel compelled to, I always answer “ buenas, Cómo se llama” and they usually hang up.
Been doing it this way for years. I was told by Citi Bank years ago, never answer a call you don't recognize or in your list of contacts. If they do want to talk to you legitimately they will leave a message if they are scammers they will hang up.

Don't get the No Answer thing, you spend more time looking at the phone, trying to decide who it is and if you want to talk to them. Just answer, and hang up, you'll never wonder who that might have been.

Android or Apple? How?

Android...

To block numbers not in your contacts on an Android phone, open the Phone app, tap the three dots for "More options," then go to "Settings," select "Blocked numbers," and toggle the option for "Unknown" to block calls from numbers not in your contacts list

AT&T has an app called Active Armor which also blocks call not in your contacts.
