So looks like we're going to try redo our failed houseboat trip to powell in 24.

We're thinking going with one of the 59' Wanderer boats out of Wahweap. I recall when we were looking before this was the boat to get, newer units + water cooled genny I think?

Has anything changed? We'll have 3 couples and 2 kids under 8

I'll look into this, but from what i've seen its twice the money to get an equivalent boat out of Antelope.

from what i remember in the past at least, Wahweap has some older dated boat classes, and some newer styles, the Wanderer is one of the newer class of boats and are pretty nice.

this would run about $9k out of Wahweap, and the equivilent boat out of Antelope would be 13k-15k depending which boat you landed on, the 15k being slightly larger. Not sure the size would matter for us since we're a small group.

We're looking at last week of July / first of Aug kinda time frame i think. My nieces are back in school mid-aug so we want to be back before that.

We had this exact trip planned about 5 years ago, we just got it booked, 2 months later we're out at Pirates at the bar and my mom calls my sister out on not drinking.

Yup, pregnant and due date is dead nuts in the middle of the trip. Turns out she would have had the baby on the boat!

The newer boats in Wahweap have to be at least 10 years old now. Haven't been on a rental in a while but I would lean towards Antelope if you can make the $ work.

we were looking at the first week of Oct. Logistically Wahweap works for us. I planned on towing up through Vegas on saturday to get my sisters family from the airport, they'll be flying down from OR. Get to Wahweap and do all our shopping there together and board the boat sunday morning.

totally, that makes a lot of sense, and pretty much what we'd do to i think. I can see some fuel / time savings with leaving from Antelope though.

We'd head out to Havasu for the night, get shit sorted there and tow out in the AM through that valley of fire cut off.

We're def looking at doing the early check in, sounds like that is 100% the way to go. You can get all of your shit packed on there at 5pm and then stay the night on teh boat, and blast out first thing in the AM.

Yes, in my opinion, the wanderer is the boat to get. It has all the latest and best features in the boat that you can get in a rental out of Wahweap. I have rented that boat a half dozen times the past few years.

you have to call and reserve pre-board you can do it at the time you make the reservation it will be about $500 and change to spend the night on the boat at the dock but in my opinion as well worth it because if you get everything squared away, you can leave fairly early in the morning.

Sure, need to know your child care qualifications and pictures of you in a few bikinis, to make sure you don’t clash with crew :)
He's real good at getting the kids to sleep🤣🤣
