I am both a broker and carrier.I use a broker for our trucking and use hotshots from time to time.

If it’s a lot of units then rail is gonna be your best optionGeorgia

Want to start a business i think there is money to be made if I can get the trailers here for less then 3k per trailerAre you doing a group buy with friends or to sell as a business?
Can you transport them on their “ass” straight up and down?Want to start a business i think there is money to be made if I can get the trailers here for less then 3k per trailer
Well no they are 20' enclosed trailersCan you transport them on their “ass” straight up and down?
Which manufacturer are you looking to sell?Want to start a business i think there is money to be made if I can get the trailers here for less then 3k per trailer
Apparently they can build them way cheaper on the east coastWhich manufacturer are you looking to sell?
No because you would be over 13’6” on the highway. Rail not sureCan you transport them on their “ass” straight up and down?
Trying to do the math now. If you laid them at a 45 angle (no idea how complicated that is) and removed the tongues could you stack 6+?No because you would be over 13’6” on the highway. Rail not sure
One way suburban rentals. I have brought 2 back from GA, one is junk, the other is worse. They are cheap for a reason!Well no they are 20' enclosed trailers
Can not remove the tongue. But if a train car can hold two 53' semi trailers then we should be able to put 4 trailers on one or 6 on two im thinkingTrying to do the math now. If you laid them at a 45 angle (no idea how complicated that is) and removed the tongues could you stack 6+?
Thanks but this doesn't help trying to move trailers in bulk not one at a timeOne way suburban rentals. I have brought 2 back from GA, one is junk, the other is worse. They are cheap for a reason!
My son has a diamond form Douglas ga. And has been happy with itApparently they can build them way cheaper on the east coast

Some yes some no.Apparently they can build them way cheaper on the east coast
It’s amazing what people are running for. Idk how they even put fuel in there trucksFigure $2.00 a mile min to flatbed semi truck for cost. Shipping via truck is super inexpensive right now and will eventually go back up as I don’t know how people make money doing that rate. I don’t do it.
I totally get what you are saying and I to don't understand how they can do it for 3.00 a mile after expenses. But for this venture I'm on the other side of the table and trying to get it as cheap as possible without having to make runs to GA myself@FCT
Funny you say that, at the airport just leaving a supply chain conference. Saw them post this up and it made me feel good for turning work down. I usually quote per lane + FSC. When I give a per mile rate, and they come back with “our target rate is $2.00-$2.20 per mile, these other guys quoted this…” I say go with them! Not in it to break even.
Good news, it’s been a shipper market for almost 2-3 years, the Shippers are expecting a turn at Q4 this year. I sure hope so.

Enclosed trailersAre you talking about 20' semi trailers or 20' box trailers?
6how many total are you trying to move.
More people need to learn to say no and we wouldn’t have this problem. I’m lucky to be in a niche industry for the most part so I don’t really deal with the bottom feeders at all. For the industry as a whole though I hope it turns around.@FCT

Here are a couple things to think about before doing this. I've done it close to you here in San Diego. I did flat bed trailers. Bought 30 of them from a builder in the midwest. They came to me with the tires and rear ramp removed for easier shipping. They were sold to me with just a MSO. Came in 2 colors white or black. Many came with paint flaws. Very poor paint jobs. The wiring for the lights was pretty bad. The couplers were an odd style. Quite a few other small issues. They started selling fairly quickly. Wasn't making very much on them at the start. Was testing the market. Not long after the sale some of them started coming back with problems. Uneven tire wear. Welds breaking, lots of rust, lights not working and so on. The MFG was a little helpful at the beginning but shortly after said that I would need to take care of the problems myself because he didn't make much money selling them to me. Selling something that has a VIN # and is going to be plated, you will need a dealers license. Just signing over the MSO to them doesn't work. The DMV will come back to you. Are you paying sales tax on them? Are you collecting sales tax when you sell them? Do you have a resale # with the State Board of Equalization? Believe me when I say that it is an absolute pain in the ASS for a few thousand dollars.
That's nuts. I was paying $1/mile for 53' air rides in the 90s. Diesel fuel was around $1.35, and a new Class 8 sleeper was $65K.It’s amazing what people are running for. Idk how they even put fuel in there trucks
I won’t even start my Dually for $2 a mile let alone my semi
I 100% would be doing the same in your shoes.I totally get what you are saying and I to don't understand how they can do it for 3.00 a mile after expenses. But for this venture I'm on the other side of the table and trying to get it as cheap as possible without having to make runs to GA myself
