So the Fiance and I are getting married next June and we had been pretty set on a cruise to the Mexican riviera for our honeymoon due to the fairly tight budget and the bang-for-the-buck aspect of a cruise. Specially one you don't necessarily have to fly to meet the boat. Well, we were talking to family this weekend and found out one of them is giving us $1,500 for our honeymoon since that's what that did for my other 2 brothers for theirs. So now we have a few more options and ideas are Goin around but I want to get some insight from the RDP braintrust since we're probably gonna want to get this pinned down pretty soon.

My advice is some place where people are far away. It does not matter what the scenery is, what matters is you spending time toegther.

Get certified to go scuba diving and you have lots of options. You will not regret it.

Congrats by the way. :champagne:

Kauai or St. Lucia US Virgin Islands. Both are less touristy and feel more private while still having lots to go do and explore.

My buddy went to St. Lucia and it looked awesome from his pics. If/when I get married again it'll probably be somewhere like there. [emoji57]

QI just returned from Kauai Saturday. Cannot be beAt, $600 Rt on American non stop. My second visit in two years out of 35 plus trips to Hawaii. Kauai is my favorite.

This photo was taken at end of kayak trip, not accessible by car.

Princeville is beyond your budget in addition it's at the north end of the island so if you want to do other travel it could be up to an hour or hour and a half drive since there is only one main road (50) on the entire Island .

I would suggest the courtyard at Coconut Beach you can get the rooms at times for $110, a night a bargain they give you two Mai tais free a day plus free nightly entertainment beginning at 7 o'clock in the lounge.

the view is fabulous, it is right on the beach isolated by itself. I rented a Camaro convertible for $210 for a week!

In my opinion it's the best value on the island.

The sunrise shot was taken at 7:30 in the morning on the beach 90 feet from my hotel room at the Courtyard Coconut Beach. This is where you need to be.

Playa del Carmen. Do a search for previous posts I've made on RDP about The Royal. Adults only, all-inclusive.

Edit: this is gonna be pushing your budget, but there are less expensive resorts in the Riviera Maya area.

Well you didn't exactly state what your budget was in the original post. $2k is gonna be tough.
Ah damn. Thought I did. Lol!

Ya, budget 2-3k TOPS. We're both pretty low maintenance so the best of best type things aren't required.

Two spots l would recommend to tourists are the Whitsunday Islands in Queensland and Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory Australia. At the moment due to the exchange rate on the dollar you would be about 30% better off to start with.
Kakadu National Park.

Read budget. He cannot afford the AU or Bora Bora. You can do Kauai for $2,300 to $2,500 easy. Most hotels will not be available for booking until 6 months out. If you can after memorial Day weekend and June 10 you can save as school is not out yet in most areas. Stay near kappa or Lihue, both centrally located with clean fairly priced hotels. LAX non stop on American is best. You ca neat ahi tacos for dinner on a budget for $12 plus beer and shop for that and beer at Costco. Have a romantic trip.

We stayed at nipili village on Maui when we went earlier this year. Not real fancy but it has a kitchen and short walk from the beach. My gf uncle goes there a few times a year and then hangs out by the pool at the big hotels :)

this is my favorite place in Kauai. Clean, well maintained, small balcony in rooms, waterfront with open lots next door, not crowded. Not a party place, Longs Drugs and small shopping center next door that you can walk to for whatever including food. They give you two Mai Tai coupons for every day that you stay, happy hour at bar, 3-6, and 9 till closing. Well drinks and popui's half price. Costco is a 15 minute drive, Princeville 40 minutes, Waimeia is 60 minutes. Looking for a laid back clean place, this is it. Best prices are during off season, off holiday.

Shop the site for dates, use AAA rate drop down box or a non refundable rate you can save. As an example early December is $127 a night. Rates can drop one week before you travel if they do not sell rooms, so a good travelr always checks once a week. Same for rental cars. I went last week and one week before traveling a full size car from Dollar was $91 a week plus fees. ALWAYS sign up for Dollar Express, no waiting in lines when you arrive at airport. Just my 2 cents as I have traveled from China to Eastern Europe wisely $.

Kauai is awesome, I would definitely check it out.

R/T for $600ish LAX-LIH on American is a great fare.

You can check out VRBO http://www.vrbo.com for deals on condos.

If you go, check out Queens Bath and snorkle Tunnels Beach for sure.
You can always drive down to Poipou and check out the beach there and explore Waimea Canyon.

I kinda do too. I'm thinking these ballers here are missing that little fact. Lol!!

Just so I understand and I'm not passing judgement.

So your original budget was $500.00 for a honeymoon and now since a relative is giving you $1500.00 you have $2000.00? Sorry but IMO go to Tahoe, drive up the coast to Cambria, Hearst Castle etc etc, wait till you guys can afford a nice honeymoon, maybe at 5 years or 10, no big deal a lot of people have done this.

Be smart with $$$$ now because it only gets harder with a family.

Too late. Already have the family. Lol! The original budget was kinda unknown since we don't have much money for a honeymoon we have a "honeyfund" for anyone that wants to give us a wedding present in the form of money for a honeymoon. So now knowing were gonna get the $1,500 I'd like to come up with some ideas where we aren't so reliant on other gifts for it.

And btw, already have the family so it's already hard with the $$ lol!

I know you do that's why I said what I did.

You keep saying that $$$$ is tight so be smart and do what you can afford which IMO is local, like I said a drive up the coast, a trip to San Fran, Tahoe, Santa Barbara, Napa Valley, plenty to do without getting on a plane or a ship. Although cruises are cheap IMO.

Flying_Lavey;

If you commit to 5+ days in Kauai with your bride, I'll send you $50 via pay pal or PM your address and I will send a check.

Anyone else going to contribute, he needs about 2G to $2,200, so another $500-$800. Help a newlywed out.

Very generous. If he sets it up (go fund me, pay pal, etc) I'll contribute. As they already have the family a week on Kauai away from the kids would be epic.

Yep, the only way to cruise.

We went to the Mexican Riviera (Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Cabo) in April on Princess. I see no reason to cruise to the Mexican Riviera again other than to go to Cabo.

Phils comment about going local is a good idea. It's more about spending time together. When the wife and I were married last year we went to the Havasu house for the week after and had a GREAT time.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I really never feel good for taking money for stuff like this specially when there are plenty of other people that need for much better reasons. Plus, we're still a little ways away from the wedding and all. But seriously, thank you for the offer.

Spend you money in America if at all possible. During the Obama recession I was making big $$, traveled a lot as it was cheap and tipped well. I felt for those hurting. Mexico is a shit hole, corrupt, drugs control most of the country. Grand as some spots are, not me. Hawiians will make you feel at home, more so in Kauai.

Better yet, the first RDP'er that sends Lavey $100, he confirms it, I will match it.

Thank you everybody for your advice and input but it won't be necessary now.

The wedding is called off and we're breaking up. We're hoping to maintain a good relationship for out daughter but the last couple weeks made it very obvious that we weren't going to work.

Ouch. Sorry to hear. Lucky you found out before you tied the knot though. Going through a divorce sucks.

Sorry to hear about this man. Buddy of mine and his fiance just called off their wedding. They have 2 daughters and were set to get married this weekend (both had bachelor and bachelorette parties, bridal shower...etc) It is tough, but everything happens for a reason. Best of luck to you and your family.

I didn't read all the replies, but I did Cancun for my honeymoon back in 2009 and had a absolute blast. Think about going back often and would do so in a heartbeat. All inclusive deal in Cancun gets my vote

I have 2 family member who have been to most of the places that are mentioned, they recently went to DR and loved it. The cost was very reasonable and service was excellent. But my best advice is DONT DO IT!
