Ok so I'm hooked. Keep this updated

While watching the 1st video I'm looking around for water and I'm not seeing any until the aerial pics and I'm thinking "That's not gonna fit in the pool dude".

After all that work, I hope he's enjoying his dream yacht.
Because a yacht he designed, with zero nautical engineering experience and built himself, then cut in seven pieces and spliced back together, is going to be viewed as a pariah by anybody with the resources to own, insure, operate and berth a vessel that large.
Simply put, they can afford better, so will buy better.
I mean look at that Gentry Eagle sitting in Ventura, an absolutely amazing world record holding vessel and it's rotting in the elements.

This thread is the first I've known about it, so I'm glad to hear that. He must have put away a few bucks, that thing won't run on dreams.
Years ago a very talented friend of mine, who happened to be a wood shop teacher at the time, started constructing a 50' fiberglass Sailing Trimaran in his driveway. He was following a proven design he'd purchased the plans for and back then, many if not most Tri hulls were home built. He got as far as having all three hulls glassed up and it was ready for the beams to tie them together and super structure.
I went over one day and it was gone. Over beers he proceeds to tell me that after 5 years, of working on it when time allowed and purchasing parts, he sawed it all up and it went to the dump.

A few years later found a killer deal on a 50' sailing Cat in La Paz, retired, moved onboard and started living his dream. Last I heard he's in his 70's like me, and was living on it in Cat Harbor, working for "The Company" driving Harbor Patrol boats in the summer and repairing pipes in the off season.
If you're at the Isthmus and meet up with a very tall grumpy old salt "Company Man", it's probably him. 🤣

Wonder what his actual background is? Incredible feat to accomplish on his own. I tried to finish my hot rod for the last 35 years before my wife got tired of looking at it and told me to drop it off at a shop and get the damn thing done.

Now that is a backyard project. I was impressed in the 1st video, then even more in the 2nd. Can't wait for the rest of them.

He took it, lived on it in Mexico for a while, through the Panama Canal a couple times and it is now on its second owner in Puerto Vallarta doing charters.

Name is kaleidoscope.

Appears it may have been sold again. Seems to have found it's niche loaded with tourists doing local coastal tours. Hell of a lot of room that's for sure. Not sure what country it's officially registered in, often home designed and built yachts are more tricky getting them licensed for passenger charter.
Although in some countries, unlike the USA, it's just dollars paid to the right individual.

I don’t even have the patience to watch the videos without skipping ahead.
I agree, when young I couldn't even build nice models because I wouldn't let the pain or glue dry.
So many of these projects I read about here on RDP and I think, nope, no way, my patience meter would run out long before I was finished.
But I can certainly appreciate the efforts of those who can and do. 👍👍👍

I can't even come close to imagining myself or anybody I know having the slightest thought of even attempting something like this?😳

I know people who have built some impressive shit from the ground up, but I feel absolutely cheated in my life not having a close relationship to someone that is wired like that on that scale...

You know every now and again someone will post something that makes me really wonder what I've actually done with my life..

I can't even imagine taking on a project that size.. let alone actually finishing it and then driving it all the way down to Panama etc.. unreal.

It is truly fascinating.

I have been impressed with so many builds that are homemade projects, but this guy is in a league all on his own. I try to figure out his costs and the only comparison I can come up with is this…..

The boat is 100’ and appears to be 50’ wide. That’s 5000sf. Then with multiple floors. I am guessing that it’s the equivalent of welding a 8000sf metal house. That cost alone would be ridiculous…… but then cutting it into 7 pieces, moving it 85 miles, then reassembling it. I can’t even imagine that cost.

Here is what I keep wondering……. Was it his plan all along, too cut up finished yacht for transport to coast? Because it Flat Out Blew my mind when I watched the cut up video.

I also wanted to see a 100’ Yacht heading down the Hwy. Even here in Florida…… You don’t see that everyday!

Wow, I forgot about this ship. My buddy from growing up, his Uncle Clyde built this back in the 90's.If I recall he built it out in Riverside, I remember him telling me about it while we were out at the River. I didn't believe him at first, we were having bevs and other things:cool: and then one day while we were launching our 550's to go surf some waves, I saw it in Dana Point Harbor. Truly an incredible endeavor.

I went on the Kaleidescope in Cabo in the late 90's. They guy said he had built it in his backyard, then hauled the pieces by truck to a port in SoCal and assembled it all. When I saw the title of this, I wondered if it was going to be about Kaleidoscope.

The evening we went on it, there was a hurricane coming through, way south of Cabo. Bad enough there were 3 cruise ship in the bay, to ride out the storm, when we woke up in the morning. We went in the sea of cortes, instead of the pacific. It was still 10-12' seas in there. Those sponsons were going from being about 10' put of the water, to coming a few inches from coming over the front. I think everybody on the boat was throwing up except my buddy and I (including our wives)..in the bathrooms and over the side. Fine with us, there was no line for drinks. LOL.

Good times. It is weird. Last week someone posted pics of a dinner cruise in Cabo. I looked at the pics to see if by chance it was still the Kaleidoscope there, but it wasn't.

I will have to wait till I get back to the house working out in the field in the panhandle. I have some photos to post of our family build of an catamaran designed by my father and built by our family. 65’ sailed between Hawaii and California and used it to cruse around the islands.

Very cool, but I am missing so much. I can't find anything on line about this and you would think that it would be HUGE news in the boating world. The video of the build is not working, does anyone have one that works?

I found a few places where it said he built it in five years in the Youtube comments but that just doesn't seem possible without a full time crew of people. Even custom yachts from major famous manufacutures with the facilities to do so take an average of three to four years. I just find this fishy, but what do I know? Now if he had a crew working on it full time then that changes the story as I thought he built it completely by himself.

Similar here, my FIL worked on yachts in Newport and him and Bruce Myers (Myers Manx) built a catamaran they raced in the Newport to Ensenada yacht race, it was awesome.

He built it in the 90's. I went on the boat in Cabo in 98. That is probably why you can't find anything about it online.

In the third video posted today, the builder states 5 year build in Perris, Ca.
