Got the alert in Ventura, didn't feel anything but saw some hanging decor swaying a bit.

Got me thinking about the alerts. I have received about 5 of these alerts in the past year. All for pretty small shakers, less than 5.0.

At what point do we start to ignore these alerts?

The first thing I thought this morning was: "Is this going to be a big one, or another small one not worth doing anything about?" I was brushing my teeth when the alert went off. I had time to rinse, walk into the bedroom and grab the 1 year old and head for the front door in case it started shaking good. That was a total of about 20 seconds.

What if it really is going to be a big one and instead of rushing to head out the door or seeking shelter, we just ignore it and do nothing, expecting another small, quick shake then get back to whatever we are doing?

Maybe they should think about only sending these out for something that is a 5.0 or larger?

(I get that this is new technology and still being perfected. It is rather cool that we are getting these alerts. We should probably think about the long term effects of these alerts and how people are going to react to them after receiving them on a regular basis.)

Why does everyone get worked up over a little earthquake. Are we new to California?

Was watching your local news. It's hilarious they fill time by taking calls from people saying the same shit we're reading here. I'm sure they're waiting to find an actual story to frighten people with. They showed a video from a liquor store with items jiggling on the shelves. LOL

I didn’t get an alert on my phone. Neither from some other emergency alert service, or the My Shake app.

It’s the old adage, we spend billions to solve minor problems while completely ignoring the major ones slapping us in the face, all for some feel goods.

How you liking Texas?
The people are great and the weather is finally getting tolerable. We’re 6 months into the process of getting my wife’s nursing license transferred and that’s frustrating as hell. Other than that, we like it. Oh and being so far from family sucks. Havasu was supposed to be our forever home, but those dreams died years ago.
