31% isn't too bad.

I'm not going to start fucking homosexual, African, intravenous drug addicts without a rubber yet.

But we're getting there.:thumbsup

Atleast 3, comfrimed, 2 more that are suspected of being HIV+.
some in my family, some friends from school.

only 1 is gay, 1 drug user( may or may not have got it from a needle, sex is just as likly) the rest are strait, 2 were younger then 21 when they contracted it.

If this vaccine does work it should only be administered to those that contract HIV through a bad blood transfusion. Irresponsibility should not be rewarded! If it is available to everyone this will just be an invitation to people further abusing drugs and unprotected sex.

Nobody is perfect and everyone makes mistakes but this is a no-brainer. Make good choices and you avoid this deadly disease. Not too hard to figure out!

And yes, I do know someone very close to me that contracted HIV many years ago but has been on the receiving end of wonderful medical treatment to this point in his life. Very lucky considering it was preventable!

I have had three friends and one family member die from Aids.

My first two friends were hemopheliacs (sp?) This was before blood was screened like it is now, and they received dirty blood. Two brothers, Peter and Darrell Burch.

The second friend hooked up with the wrong chick in the early 90's. He was 6'5 and 260 and 8% body fat, when I knew him. I was the last person that wasn't family to see him before he died. He weighed maybe 115lbs, literally skin on bones.

The last aids related death to cross my life path was my uncle Chris. He was the ultra cool uncle growing up. We didn't know until he announced to the family that he was gay, and contracted HIV, then full blown AIDS. He pretty much said that his lifestyle choice cost him his life.

I can tell you first hand, it is very difficult to see the extent that people with AIDS suffer. What ever their life choices may be, I am sure that they would take a 31% chance to rid themselves of that burden.

My aunt is HIV+ ... she was in a monogamous happy marriage or so she thought, too bad her husband wasn't. Bastard knew he had it too, didn't tell her and never used protection. Far as I know she is doing okay and has a low viral load so she doesn't have AIDS ... but things could/likely will change. It completely blindsided her and the rest of the family; she was over age 50 when she found out why she wasn't feeling well.
Bad stuff doesn't only happen to bad people - sometimes bad stuff happens to good people. I want bad stuff to happen to her ex-husband. He is still not sorry and last I heard (two years ago) he continues to live irresponsibly.

Well if that's the case, why treat people that have skin cancer? Idiots should have used sunscreen. You have the flu??? No tamiflu for you! You should have washed your hands. Your kid fell off his bike and bumped his head??? Well the dumbass shouldn't have been riding without a helmet...he'll get better or he won't.

Here's a better idea. How about once they get a vaccine they give it to everyone that has the disease so we can once and for all rid the world of it?? But what fun would that be

:thumbsdown I suppose you won't give your daughter the HPV vaccine?
It's a PUBLIC HEALTH campaign.
MP's answer is much better. Although you want to take the vaccine BEFORE exposure, not after.

In fairness, per death, AIDS is getting 10x the money that cancer gets. And breast cancer gets 10x as much as prostate cancer gets. So it goes.

Results: New infections occurred in 51 of the 8,197 given vaccine and in 74 of the 8,198 who received dummy shots. That worked out to a 31 percent lower risk of infection for the vaccine group.

This is nothing to scream about.
