Yeah we’re the exact same age.
It was intermittent until last fall, now it’s all the time pain. I hobble around like I’m 90.
That's exactly how I am now and it's affecting my quality of life. I would like to do a lot of things but thinking about having to walk anywhere for an extended period of time changes my mind. I just have to decide on if I gamble on the shot helping me enough in the short term or just go with surgery. @LuckyStrike how was the recoup time after? Dr is saying that the norm is not driving for six weeks after.

Just tossing this out here if it might help anyone living with hip joint pain.

I was living with some fairly painful hip pain but also had some nerve pain going down both legs with occasional leg cramps that hurt like a mo-fo.
Went on a strict diet, lost 15 pounds, and then started doing light weight leg curls and leg extensions on a regular basis to see if muscle strengthening would help and it did but there was some discomfort at first, but after about 2 weeks went by my legs started feeling stronger and walking felt waaay better. So I believe some regular light weight leg strengthening helps with emphasis on the quads. The pain relief would be comparable to taking an advil without having to take an advil as the leg muscles start activating and become stronger.

Had the x-rays, they came back with very close to bone on bone but another dr. I spoke to said our hips are basically near bone on bone anyway so I went on looking at some other potential causes.

Next I scheduled some lab tests, blood screenings, and the cumulative report came back good and in normal ranges across the board except for my Electrolyte levels.
My Electrolytes were well below the safe normal range by a bunch. Water is not enough and drinking too much water can dilute the 6 needed Electrolytes your body needs to safely and normally function correctly and chronic Dehydration can damage joints if not quickly addressed. So I rolled with the tests and started on fortifying Electrolytes in a big way. So far I feel pretty damn good and it seems everything is generally better. The hip socket pain has been cut back to by about 75%, some days Zero pain, and the leg nerve pain is gone. And I have not had a leg cramp since.

Check your Electrolyte levels, lacking It might be some of the problem.

Will finish with this...

"Does Dehydration Cause Joint Pain?
Dehydration can cause joint pain because of the lubricating effect it has on the joints. It’s estimated that 70 – 80% of your joint cartilage consists of water. Synovial fluid is the thick lubrication located between the joints, giving you a cushion so the bones don’t come in contact. This fluid is located in the joints throughout your body: hips, knees, feet, shoulders, and hands.

If you are hydrated, then the gel-like liquid provides nutrition, shock-absorption, lubrication, and cushioning in the joints. The framework is like a sponge, with the water filling the space to cushion the joint. This process helps to reduce friction in the cartilage and gives you a smooth, sustained motion in the joints. When the fluid is not sufficient, then there is less lubrication in the joints, which leads to the development of joint pain."

Look it up!!!

The surgeon I consulted with in Havasu said the same thing. He said when I think it’s time go a little longer.
Hey tommy, DR. Heiner??? That's who Diana is seeing. She had the first injection 21/2 months ago and it's wearing off now. Has another appointment end of the month for another. She's trying to make it to Medicare age. Both hips are trash.

No I was referred to Dr David Vande Wyngaerde,
That’s who I consulted with. He’s got 35 years and according to him thousands of hips done and only 5 fuck ups...(infections)
Has a hip himself, said he would have done his own if he could have.
It’s a little scary because I can’t afford a fuck up.

I had one replaced in 2007 and the other in 2008, life changing. I too could hardly walk, more of a hobble. I suffered for 2 years that way and finally had them done at USC University Hospital. I was 41 when I did the first, it was bone on bone and the pain was too much. I have Zimmer titanium stem/chrome race. My big question at the time was how long would they last. I was told at the time they were not certain because these new (non nylon) types were relatively new. There was a recall on Depuy brand several years ago but I was assured Zimmer are good to go. There are risks with any surgery especially where implants are concerned, if you are in pain I would recommend the surgery.

I am 14 years in and no problems! My only recommendation is do it in the winter, would be very uncomfortable to deal with the wraps and bandages in the summer!

If the so called stem cell therapy worked, people wouldn't have to go to Mexico or Columbia to be treated. It would be available right here in the good ol' USA.
Owe if only that were the case.... stem cell work is best out of states due to US restrictions on attaining cells from placental blood/ umbilical cords. USA has laws regarding harvesting such. Unfortunately these are the holy grail cells that show best results in repairing damage to joints etc.... if you have 10 minutes for a quick education, this video is highly informative. Dr set up operations in Panama. Treats hips.....

Had consult with ortho Dr this am right hip socket is bone on bone and a replacement is going to happen this year. I have a fishing trip in Alaska in Sept. so we are going to try the steroid injection first to see if that can get me through the trip then have it replaced after.
Well this didn't age too well kinda like my hip. Got the run around from Desert Valley Medical Group, fuck them, switched to Kaiser Jan 2023 and just cleared my last appointment today before hip replacement this Friday 8/23. It's been a very long road to get here. but I have a great surgeon with Kaiser and feel very confidant that the outcome will be great. Wish me luck!

Well today is day five post op and it's going pretty well considering the condition of my joint. Surgeon said it was fused in place had to chip out an inch of bone from the socket. The hip pain is basically gone but my thigh muscles hurt something fierce and I'm told it's because of him getting my leg back to it's proper length had PT on Monday and they are coming today. Been up and walking (walker) at least 5 min every hour icing 20min every hour. It's getting better by the day and I'm so happy to have my life back. This pain will end which is the difference from before. It was never ending and inescapable. There's always been a light at the other end of the tunnel just now it's not a train but the other end. If anyone has Kaiser and is in need of a hip/knee Dr. Lee is the man!

Best thing I did. Still have pain when I get is certain positions. But I can sleep and walk now. I couldn’t walk more than 5 minutes before surgery and I lived with pain for 30 years but the last 6-7 was worst. Cool thing was the same leg my foot was turned out due to a broken ankle years ago. The doctor made it straight again with the position he set my leg.
