My daughter came in to us about 3hrs ago in tears, a fellow classmate was involved in a car accident last night and was taken to our local trauma center in critical condition. He unfortunately died from his injuries this afternoon at 17yrs old. He was a star baseball player trying to make his mark in Highlander history.
She met him in 7th grade and he was her first true crush, so much so that she told mom but didn't want dad to know because well, dad's want to take boys "shark fishing". Of course mom told me but swore me to secrecy.
I lost my first classmate in the 9th grade also to a car accident on their way to Mammoth 2 days before Christmas, and my wife lost her first classmate as well in middle school, we know how all these kids are feeling.
He was supposed to start his senior year this Thursday with my daughter and a few hundred other senior's. This was supposed to be year of choosing a college, going to prom, grad night and walking across the stage getting a High school diploma, not for parents to be choosing a headstone.
His little sister is a freshman this year and she was expecting big brother to be there and be well, the big brother.
We went to the store and bought a bouquet of white roses and yellow roses. The accident happened right around the corner from our house so we stopped by and left the white roses and then went to Royal High School's Highlander Baseball field where there was a vigil happening and left the yellow roses at the plate he protected, home plate.
His parents were there and we gave them our love and support.
Give you kids an extra hug tonight.
RIP Dylan
