This is a motor shaft that drives a gigantic fan blade in a high heat condition. The bar is too big to fit through the bore of my Lathe so I got to use the steady rest for a change. Used my indicator base with the push through pins to locate on the Bedways and get the bar true to the bed ways before I spin it up. Faced the end and put a center in it.The material is pretty tough and Iscar carbide tool company came by the shop and gave me a couple inserts to try out. I got the whole job done with just one edge on one insert. The piece of aluminum sheet stock where the bar meets the lathe Chuck is there to keep the machine from shoving the bar back into the Chuck.
