Have you seen this staircase at the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe, NM? It has no center support and the carpenter did not use nails or glue. In fact, they have no idea how it is put together and how it is able to stand without a center support. Mystery aside....it is one bad ass staircase!!

That is the story....guy shows up after the nuns pray to St. Joseph about finding a carpenter. Then leaves before getting paid. They think the mystery carpenter was St. Joseph. But, knowing how bad the Catholics are at paying their bills, I think they might be stretching the truth about him leaving before being paid.

P.S. I'm Catholic...sorta....."Lutheran" Catholic.:box:

When my Dad lived in Santa Fe he took me there to see it on one of my visits, he keep telling me "you gotta see this it's remarkable". He was right, I stood and loked at for like 45+ min and was amazed. If you are ever in the area it is worth the stop and look see even if your not into wood work.

That is bad-ass. I worked as a carpenter for years, but even if I could use power tools, nails, screws, glue, steel, and a welder, I still wouldn't be able to pull that staircase off anytime soon.

I'm going in July. The family is doing a long moho road trip and my Mother-in-law wants to stop and see it. We're doing the grand canyon, Sky City NM, Santa Fe, then up to Mr Rushmore & Crazy Horse, Yellowstone, Glacier national park and finishing up in Whitefish MT....we have family there and Grandpa-in-law is turning 90. Then back down the 15 with a stop at the Great Salt Lake (kids want to see it). 17 day trip.

I don't remember when it is for sure because it has been like 12 years since my dad lived there but if you hit Santa Fe at the right time for "Summer Market" in the town center it is really cool. Also a great place for breakfast is Tia Sophias.....awsome green chille buritos, thats another neat deal is even at the local McDonalds you can get a buger with green chilles, yummmmmmm. Sounds like a really cool family trip, it's unbelievable how many really nice things there are to see in the united states, wish you the best of times and make sure to take lots of pics.

Snopes is good for internet rumors. They are owned by fairly liberal/socialisit & ATHEIST people who have long put out hit pieces on pretty much anything Christian. I'm not about to take a Snopes review....which they NEVER SAW IN PERSON, as an actual account or that they have any expertise in what is quality workmanship or not. I will however, put some value in their take on the history/time line/story.

The final line in the snopes report is very TELLING of their liberal/socialistic views....they point out that the church is a privately held museum that operates for profit...and therefore, they have a vested interest in perpetuating lies. Please STFU. This kind of story makes me give less credit to Snopes because their personal political views come thru loud and clear and shows they are not interested in the truth as much as they are interested in smearing.

I will be seeing the Staircase in July. I'll take more detailed pics and give my personal opinion.

Did you buy another motorhome? Sounds like a fun trip. We spent xmas in Sanat Fe 3 years ago. Rented a house. That place is very cool.


I have never driven past flagstaff on the 40 before that trip. Had no idea you climb up to 6500 feet and that becomes the new low elevation for days of driving.
