So how exactly do you find a "competent" dealer to have them do it correctly? Take my vehicle to all the dealers until maybe people stop flashing their lights at me? Call the front desk and ask if they are competent? For me in havasu I have one dealer. Want me to drive hundreds of miles to get my lights adjusted? Just curious how you professionals deal with stuff like this so us low lifers can one day[
just maybe, be as perfect as the rest of you. 🙄

Well, my first suggestion would be...

Definitely don't buy a Chebby?

I was a PDI guy at what is now Dutton Motors now. No we didn't check that stuff then either.

😁

My second suggestion would be...

IF people are flashing their high beams at you, you should probably look into it.

If like in Tommy's situation, you've had them repeatedly checked and you still have the issue, adjust them lower yourself...

Use the wall method, at night, take pics where the lights hit the wall, and adjust them a little bit at a time.

The left beam should Always be slightly lower than the right beam to avoid blinding incoming traffic.

You say you're in Havasu?

Leave the right beam high, and adjust it a little bit to the right.

This seems to be a pretty good DIY guide...

That blue light on your dash means your high beams are on! If you need your high beams on to drive on the freeway in SoCal you’ve got bigger problems and shouldn’t be driving at all.

Rant over.

The new chevys and gmcs are fucking insane.. my wife’s truck is brighter than high beams on low.. 😳😳

A bigger problem is what auto companies have done with daytime running lights (DRLs). People get in their cars (many are rentals) and see their lights are on and the instrument panel lights are on with the DRLs so they have no idea their taillights aren't on.

Leave it to Canada to figure this out before the USA...

I was going to say a lot of these “low beam” settings are 2X what a 2004 high beam was.

Driving to the river or mammoth at night in my truck is fine since I have tint on the windshield. But in my wife’s jeep I feel my eyes burning.

Remember when you would get a ticket for not having covers on your KC lights
In the 80's you could not make it across town with offroad lights uncovered. Now anything goes.

See that from time to time in a vacation town. A lot of rentals. Thought that it was my last week in Seattle on work. Turned out that my son turned off the lights thinking that they would not turn off automatically.

We have this same problem on LOTO, stupid pontoon owners drive around at night with their docking lights on, thinking they are headlights.
See more wave tractors on Havasu doing the same thing.

I blaim it on the new "auto" high beams. How hard is it to turn them on and off manually? "Its not my fault the car is supposed to do it automatically".. really stupid?

I like when I'm driving the K5 in these situations.🤷🏻‍♂️🤣

That's what that is? I keep seeing idiots with no taillights, I had no idea.
For my .02 about everyone's fucking bright ass headlights, I drove a 2011 KIA Optima forever, I swear that car was set at every Tom, Dick, and Harry's headlight height. I couldn't see shit. My new car is fine. And, it's the same fucking size (different make, model yaya) But I'm scared, and I still hate all you mother fuckers. maybe I'm jealous. 🤣

See post 18, I can only vouch for the Ford though but it's fast. Going around a corner with limited visibility once you see the car it sees it and turns them off. If you had your hand on the switch it would still beat you.

No it wouldnt because 9 times out of 10 you can see the light visibly before it hits the corner. If you can't/dont you are not paying attention. And some autos dont seem to shut off till you are 100' away. If you have to depend on "the car" to operate your high beams you probably shouldn't have them🤷🏻‍♂️. Driving "etiquette seems to have gone out the window and just blame it in the car these days! And yes my autos are turned off in my moderns..

Being lazy is the only correct answer..jmo

Hey the 2016 GMCs (at least my Yukon) couldn’t bother putting an auto high beams switch on the dash. If you wanted that feature you had to flash your high beams like three times and then put them in manual high beams and hope the auto light came on. At which point any driver around you is aiming their gun at you. So at least for me I just deal with the manual method. Sometimes I forget to turn them down. My bad.

Lol...

Did you Ever consider they might need to be Adjusted? 🤔

When the dealership does the PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) they are SUPPOSED to check all these things.

Some manufacturers have gone to the port PDI's, cause they know the dickwads at the dealership will just skip it!

So cars frequently get delivered with 60psi of air in the tires, headlights out of adjustment, lug nuts not torqued properly and lord knows what else they skipped on the PDI just to put a few extra bucks in their pockets.

Is this YOUR fault? Fuck no! But, if you frequently have people flashing their brights at you, then you might want to have a competent dealership adjust them.

From my personal observation? Every time some new car is blinding me with their new headlights, it's Almost ALWAYS a GM product! 🤣

Go figure eh? 😜
Anyone else here remember the CHP stops to check your headlight adjustment?
If you failed you had to go to an 'Authorized' station to get it corrected then signed off?

Do you mean bringing a tape measure out to make sure your headlights and front axle were at the appropriate heights. If so, yes. They’ve been checked sir, but if you’d like to check them again...

This is the guy most dealerships use to adjust headlights

View attachment 1213439

It would probably get done right if that guy did it. He's old and probably knows how to replace your points and condenser as well! 🤣

The kid they gave the ticket to, probably just got out of tech school where they didn't teach headlight adjustment procedure. 🙄

ProTip: When going into Any dealership with a strange issue, Always ask to speak with the shop foreman. And yes, you know he's busy, but you'll be happy to wait. 👍🏼

Would get flashed often when I was towing at night, truck at the time didn't have self-leveling headlights... I suspect a lot of the cars that look like their highbeams are on actually are full of passengers or maybe a backseat full of muffintops?

I agree, my truck is way quicker than I am at turning them off than I am.
