TEMPE, AZ — The man responsible for the thefts of nearly $22,000 in tailgates was arrested in Tempe.
Tempe police report that on April 19 they arrested 36-year-old Christopher Paul Janicek near 48th Street and Baseline Road.
Police believe he is the man responsible for several tailgate thefts at Arizona Mills Mall and other locations in Tempe.
On April 3, police say a victim who had their tailgate stolen found it on Craigslist and made arrangements to repurchase it for $80 from Janicek.
With that information, Tempe police were able to link Janicek to nine tailgate thefts in various locations around Tempe, but mostly at Arizona Mills Mall.
Court records show that the total value of the tailgates stolen is nearly $22,000.
Upon his arrest, Janicek allegedly admitted to his actions, saying he needed money to pay bills. Police say they also found drug paraphernalia with him when he was arrested.
Janicek has been charged with trafficking in stolen property.
