Neighbors have a pit.
It's a mean dog but our cat walks right through the wrot iron and right by the dog and drinks her water.

The trick is to introduce all the neighborhood animals to each other.
Then, they will usually stick up for each other.
Especially when the Coyotes stroll in.

Well, at least the dogs will.
