My son recently helped me by rear ending a car at a traffic light. He def has some front end damage but nothing crazy. The 2021 Bronco with Progressive is trying to total their vehicle out. Why? Cause the $40 hitch ball is bent down and they are claiming that even though its aftermarket and pinned into the receiver, its part of the car and attached to the frame.

My daughter rolled into the back of a car at a stop light. The car she hit was a complete piece of shit, her car had a very minor scratch from the collision. The guy she hit's has his pregnant wife in the car with him. They run to the ER and my insurance company at the time has to pay out $12,000 for the medical bills.

That sucks man..

On a positive note, my State Farm agent emailed me this week saying my bill is going down like $45 on one of my cars per month. I thought it was a typo and that they meant INCREASE lol.. But it's legit... Might be a TX thing? Hopefully OP sees some of that decrease at least, if it's a widespread trend

Changed my address from 78015 to 78003 yesterday as I forgot to do that in July. Rate on the Harley went from 76. per mo to 36. per month.

My wife was rear ended in her 2022 Honda Civic...the driver of the other vehicle told her to pull to the side to exchange info, when my wife did, the lady took off...my wife was not able to get her license plate or anything....needless to say, we had to go thru our insurance....car was just slightly damaged, bumper had a crease in it and a hole from im guess the other cars plate...to me, it was replace the bumper cover and done...we went to the shop that the insurance recommended...$4800 to fix it....I was shocked...

To be fair, the hitch ball is not bent, and the draw bar does not appear to be bent either, but rather the receiver itself and very likely (probably) the sheet metal "frame" it's bolted too....

It's a ford escape in bronco clothing....and the whole thing is bent.

This, It's a unibody CAR, It's not a truck, and the hitch is considerably stronger than what its bolted to. Sadly.

It can be repaired
It can be made to look straight, but it can't be repaired without drilling out all the spot welds and replacing the "frame rails" which are undoubtedly buckled based on the angle of the hitch. Sure, it can be pulled and brought back into dimensional spec, but no body shop in their right mind would do such a thing, especially considering the litigious society we have today. That is a critical component of the crumple zone and it did it's job....it can't do it's job twice. Look at the lower wheel arch corner proximity to the tire....it's not just a bent hitch....there is a lot of damage there that we can't see, plus likely 2 rear quarter panels, rear hatch, rear bumper, rear lower hatch jamb. Just the paint work on a hatch, 2 quarters, and bumper is probably approaching $2000.

By the time enough stuff is cut off and replaced, you'd be money ahead simply replacing the whole car, which is why the insurance company is calling it a total loss.

If that was your car, and the crash structure was compromised by a collision that was not your fault...would you accept a repair and put your wife and kid back in it or would you demand a replacement vehicle?

It can be safely repaired by a proper certified frame tech, I worked for several years in the body business and over saw dozens of unibody crumple zone repairs. Yes

"Ford, where quality is job 1."

I'm dating myself here, but I'm almost positive that was a slogan of theirs MANY moons ago.....

Obviously that slogan is no longer the case. 🤣

Waiting for a red light, the pickup truck behind me to my left couldn't see me and tried to advance one spot into me.

Guess the damage amount.

I had state farm for over 40 years. up to 7 vehicles... you can tell where this is going..... when some dipshit girl ran into the wifes van, about a 2k issue, state farm took
FOREVER and a day, plus I did all the leg work. they never returned calls, they hire idiot kids to do estimates OVER THE PHONE. its miserable.

I had conversations with my agent of 25 years telling him it's time to engage. I'm not just a check writer every other month. you gotta get your ass out there and help
me on this. now. nope.

F- state farm.
