Still waiting on the engine so I'm trying to knock out other stuff in the mean time.

Trying to remove the hub and rotor to replace the rotor and bearings. Rotor has a big gouge.

All the videos I watched are not showing the same thing
i have and my book is not helping me either.

1977 f150 4x4 manual locking hub, should be the the dana 44.

Locking hub came off no problem and I removed the snap ring but what's left behind is what I think is the axle shaft sleeve. It's not coming off to even try and get the spanner wrench on.

Here is a pic of what I'm lookong at what part I think it from the book.

Anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?

I don't see any other snap rings or anything holding it on.

I don't know if this is the exact one but it is something like this, not sure if they have different sizes

That should come out if you have the c-clip off the end of the axle. Probably nasty dried up grease. The thing 4waters is talking about is behind that.

If you have some Knipex channel locks, or big needle nose (SnapOn electrical/ fuse and relay work good), grab the outside of that sleeve while holding the U-joint. A little twist and shake and it will pop. Usually just grease, grime and a little wear in the splines hanging it up.

If you are located in Havasu I can loan you the spindle nut socket if you need it……
Thanks. Appreciate it.

I picked one up from Napa just couldn't get to spot where I needed it until some help here told me just to pull off the sleeve with pliers. Then I was able to use the spindle but and everything came right off.

I'm assuming while I'm in this deep I should pull the spindle off and just replace the spindle bearing? Any reason not to?

Check it for sure, make sure it isn't "chunky". I've run into more spindles being scored from bad hub bearings though.
The hub inner looked real good, outer not as much but neither were to bad. The rotor is shot so I figured I might as well freshen all the bearings while I'm torn down.

So basically just pull of the spindle and look for anything out of sorts?

Really don't need to pull it. I usually just wipe it down with a clean rag. If it has hot spots, I'd pitch it. Obviously, wear from dry bearings too. Sometimes you'll have some small burrs on the leading threads, and just clean them up with a file while everything is clean. Not so much an issue with 1/2 tons, but when they don't quite line up throwing on the others, they can booger the threads.

I'd def clean everything and repack it for sure, but if the bearing is good i'd just run it.

unless you're spending good money on bearings, most are shit these days. Just like everything else, China has flooded the market with shit parts that dont last.

I have the spindle nut tool in Riverside if you need it btw.

Unfortunately they make tons of sizes of that spindle socket. Also unfortunately, year make and model can come with many different ones. Same axles will have different ones sometimes.

I've been down this road with a vehicle. I now have about a dozen of them. I should just buy the board and complete set like at the tire shop.

Was able to get it all done after work today. Bearings were in great shape but I went ahead and pulled the seal on the hub so I could repack the bearing. I should have taken a pic but I putting the new seal in got me for a few. When I pulled the seal it sheared off perfectly and it was almost invisible to the naked eye that the bottom half of it was still in hub. So I thought maybe I had the wrong deal since no way it was fitting. Finally took a minute to inspect with a flash light and saw a seam and was able to take a small punch to it to bend it out.

Thats because one is from China and the other one is from Beijing !!!!
Lol it screwed me anyway. Going to cost me one new bearing seal. The locking hub assembly wouldn't fit in the new hub for some reason. It's off by just enough to not go in. I was going to replace the lug nuts so at least I got that with the new hub so I guess it's a wash..
