Hi,

I had this RaysonCraft for over 12Years. When I go off the plates its starts to porpoising and it feels like the setup can not maintain a steady angel.
The boat is a 19ft RaysonCraft with a turbocharged 540cui delivering 1400hp. Connected to the engine is a PG shortie from M&M.

* Prop is a 11 1/2 x 16.
* V-drive is a 10deg Casale with 48% overdrive
* V-drive is located 100" from the transom
* Motor is located 26,4" from the transom
* I have to measure, but I'm almost sure I have a 7deg Strut.

I was thinking of moving the v-drive and engine more forward in the boat to get rid of the porpoising. Any one on this forum that can support with knowledge related to this?

The boat is pretty fast, but I have to stay with the plates a bit down to not get in to the porpoising, so it runs heavy in the water! I have attached a video below that shows the issue...

My 1471 blown 21 Rayson was a handful early on. I got it to settle down with some prop adjustments.

Let’s get some more details on the TT and motor setup!

HI,

Thanks for the reply!

I have been laborating with the prop position (+- 1/2"), it does not do much of a difference:( It feels like the Main setup of the boat is wrong and bigger adjustments is needed to get it to run properly.
I did just put the engine and v-drive at the location where the previous owner had it located, and that seems incorrect...

The engine is a 540BBC (Dart Big M with ProTopline Heads, TD-rockers), twin Precision turbo, FuelTech EFI. I do live in Sweden, Europe so I'm not 100% sure what TT means?

Hi,
I've got a 17'10" medium layup Sanger Gullwing (circle boat hull) with a 572 Dart Motor which is 34" from the transom. All the info I've gotten from the knowledgeable guys over here is motor placement, 34/36 inches from the inside of your transom. Looking at your diagram, it looks to me like your engine is way to close to your transom!! As much horsepower as it appears your dealing with, I would absolutely move the engine forward to that range. The rest of the measurements look fine to me, but there are guys on here with way more knowledge than me! Incidentally even at 34" I have to use a little plate, so I may be moving my engine forward again. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply! I was in contact with HeavyD a few years back. He also told me to move the motor Forward, so I have 36" from inside transom to the first plate. I will remove the engine anyway for minor service, so shorten the driveshaft and move the motor forward is way easier than moving the v-drive.

HECK YEAH!!!! To answer your question, I would move the motor forward between 34-36 from transom to rear motor plate. That all said, thats a freaking badass setup! I am working on a 632 twin turbo deal right now with Holley EFI. Yours looks badass!

Nice 👍Mine is about 36 to rear plate w driveline only, and your mid plate @ v drive 100" should be ok. One other thought from the pics, just an observation..... but from the various pics of the quantity and placement of turnbuckles on the plates look inward from corners, big gap between in the center, and not very much support for 1400 hp compared to most. That could certainly affect handling regardless . Also the plate adjustment flat vs gull , outer corners, and prop makes a huge difference as you probably already know .

Here's an old image from before repaint, and other upgrades. Shall I add more turnbuckles to the plates and have no gap in the center? We have added the outside ones, since they were missing from the previous owner..

I Will give Rex a call this weekend👍

I measured the strut angle, along with the motor and the v-drive. Strut is 7deg, motor and v drive leans 3deg forward:
