I could use the inmates help...

Every summer we load up the rv and get the kids out to see the country.

Last year we did Yellowstone National Park, Grand Tetons, and Jackson Hole Wyoming. The year before we did Yosemite and Sequoia.

Would like to stay in California this year but open to ideas elsewhere.

This year the suggestion was thrown out for a 9 day trip. We'd do Big Sur, Yosemite, and Lake Tahoe.

Any other ideas? Not looking to be in 100 degree weather which kind of rules out heading east.

Not sure what your time frame is but the NHRA drags at Sonoma are July 24 through 27. I know I've mentioned it to you a time or two but we have a great time every year.

For Califorrnia then anywhere in the Eastern Sierra's. Tahoe is beautiful but if you want to stay closer to home then Anywhere from Bishop north and you will do just fine. Fantastic weather in June. Take a fishing pole. Go though Mammoth, June Lake Loop, See Devil's Postpile, go to Bodie, lakes everywhere.

If you want to venture out of state then go to the Rockies. I took my wife to Vail for MLK weekend and all I can say is wow. The snow was awesome but I can't wait to get back during the summer with my fishing pole.

We do a mammoth trip every year for 4th July and it is gorgeous that time of year. Weather is in the low 80s, plenty of stuff to do and it is pretty close to everything. We have left from mammoth in the am and driven to Tahoe and back in the same day. Great drive as well going up the 395. Try Sherwin creek campground. In the wilderness but only a few minutes out of town.

The redwoods and the Trinity Alps. Do a loop. Up the 1/101 across 299 and back through the Sierra's and maybe Yosemite.. Raft the Trinity River.

I may have missed it, but where are you starting from?

If in So Cal, head up the coast through the central coast (SLO, Paso Robles, etc) and then head north east toward Tahoe. Make your way back through the eastern Sierra's and back. There is plenty to do along that way that will consume 9 days and more......

We're loving the Lake Tahoe idea. My parents were married in Lake Tahoe, so other than that I'm totally unfamiliar with it.

Anybody in the know on places to camp or what part of town should we stay to be central to most of the activities?

You might be able to hit up the wood boat show in Tahoe and check that off the bucket list. Also, if you're kids are into bmx or skateboarding, take them to Boreal/Camp Woodward and get them a day pass. You can rent a house in Tahoe Keys for a reasonable amount as well. Boat rentals are expensive. There are many campgrounds between Tahoe City and South Shore. Mount Tallac is a fairly easy day hike and will get you over 9000' with a view of Lake Tahoe and Fallen Leaf Lake. I like hanging out in Truckee myself. Good food and beer at the brewery. You can also raft the Truckee River which is more of a beer run than anything.

Eastern Sierra/Owens Valley, Hwy 395 - Beautiful area. Starting with the small town of Lone Pine (Alabama Hills and Whitney Portal just to the west of town). We're not too big on Mammoth. 395 is a great way to drive up to Tahoe. Plan overnight stays in a couple of places as you travel north. You'll pass thru, or near, Lone Pine, Independence, Big Pine, Bishop, June Lake Loop, Lee Vining, ghost town of Bodie, Bridgeport, Topaz Lake and Gardnerville. As mentioned previously, take a fishing pole and take your time.

Looks like you like putting on the miles. Do you have a tow vehicle or have to go to sites with RV?

In Tahoe we stayed at Camp Richardson's on the lake good mix of Family(kids) and Adult things to do, right on the lake with restraunt and sandy beach. Cabins were very rustic and little used but comfortable. Also have RV park there. Lake water was still cold in August, clearest water there is.

The miles don't bother me if the destination is awesome.

I have both a camper and 5th wheel. I'd prefer an RV site for this trip. This trip will be with the 5th so I'll have a vehicle.

This was last July at the Grand Tetons. Would be hard to top the scenery.

Tahoe is a special place. It's where my parents got married 35 years ago after knowing each other for 6 weeks... But they haven't been back since. Would like to take them on this trip and drag them back to where they tied the knot as a surprise.

Houseboat trip to Shasta. When I was a little girl we did this. Since you have little kiddos... on the way home we took it slow. Went through the Redwoods and gold mining towns.

I'll never forget those vacations.

On a sidenote.. my sister who was about 5 painted her toe nails and after they were dried jumped in the water off the back of the HS. Me Mommy and Dad and friends were just floating with our life jackets. So about 5 minutes into the float a little blue gill latched on to Heathers toe. She basically walked on water. It took many days for her to get back in the water LOL Oh and she took the nail polish off

I'm doing my best to create those same memories for my little ones. I have plenty of memories similar to yours. Shasta would be awesome but not sure I have the time.

Maybe next year for Shasta...

Thanks rvrmom, hang in there.

South Lake Tahoe rent a house in the keys. South Tahoe has everything casinos restaurants shops grocery stores marina etc. I only went to the north end by boat and it was to go to garwoods. You gotta check out garwoods. Usually the celebrity golf tournament is in the middle of July.

Agreed would be hard to top. We were in Jackson hole in May last year, little more snow on the Tetons ansd the wild flowers were just starting to bloom. Went back to Yellowstone in August and those traffic jams were amazing.

If you don't mind the miles Glacier Park with "Going to the Sun" road is truely amazing. Just down from there is Flat Head lake. You can go home through Coeur d'Alene Idaho and Hells Canyon

A lot of great ideas. Keep us posted on what you guys decide to do. It's always nice to see and get ideas from others that have done it.
Memories for my childhood are the #1 reason I do the same for my kids.
Hope you guys have fun whatever you decide to do
