Welcome to the board AK49er. :) I love hard lines, and am surprised more people don't make use of them.

PM me the diameter of the hole on the bottom of this scoop as well as the diameter of the thread the wing nut sits upon please.

We can do much better then that pipe.. ;)

Yes, we use the SS Tubing all over here at the power plant, all this is from decomissioned apparatus. I beleive if it's good enough for industrial gas turbines, it will be good enough for my ride.

I beleive the standard diameter of 4bbl carb. intakes is 5 1/4, the all-thread is 3/8.

I designed the scoop myself about 6 years ago, made out of scrap. I didn't put much effort into the hold down bar, and assumed this round shape would be best to prevent undue turbulence.

Seeing as I designed the scoop, I had no idea or reference about how high the "riser collar" should be. My Wild Assed Guess placed it so the deck of the scoop runs right into my overflow ports on the carb. I have always wondered if at speed, the "rammed air" puts pressure into this tube, possibly making the carb not operate correctly, any thoughts?

That stainless will last forever, I used it on my last one
and have almost everything purchased for my current boat.

give it a good polish and it looks great.

I don't believe the scoop will cause a "possitive" air pressure situation..

Hey Daytona, nice runs. That really looks great. Definite motivation to complete my install.

What Size tube did you you use , and for what components?

I used 1/2" on all the water lines, 1/2" on fuel supply lines and 3/8 on the return,

On my current build I plan on 1/2" water lines, 5/8 fuel supply and 1/2 return. 1/8 on my boost and fuel gauge lines, 1/4" on diverter pump and jet pressure taps.

I have 98 percent of it purchased just missing a few connections
and I'll probably screw up at least 1 stick of 1/2 getting my runs right.

@Randall, no pictures of the V, I can take some, but it is a sad sight, I need to run new stringers and lay it up again. But, the original paint job is tits. It was owned by a profesional painter, one of the best in the State of Alaska, and he really laid it down. Some say its' gawdy, (it is about 15 years old and styles change)
but i like it.

@ Daytona, I hope my sizes are adequate, with my cooling scheme (flow/pressure regulated) coupled with cold Alaskan Lake water, I think I will be alright, will know by Saturday. All my tubes and fittings (minus about 50.00 worth) are from tear downs here at the plant, I made no bends, only cuts and added new ferrules. I did this too on my Vegetable Oil refinery you can see in the background. To me that is really cool to be able to utilize a waste product for a new application without much modification. Once again nice work.

@Dave Great forum, can you retitle this thread , "Hello From Alaska", I spelled it wrong the first time. Thanks man....:D

Truly there is.

Unfortunately, I would say there is more iron in back yards than on the water. I tried to get a club going up here a few years back , The Alaska Power Boat Race Association, just to get guys to get their hulks back together. We had two races one summer and I went another direction. Quite a bit of "old" iron here. I have seen only a handful of newer performance hulls, most every one is going to 'lil squirter hulls, or Bass shaking Wake boats.

I would love to have a hydro...I know..it's a sickness, but I'm ok with that.

Or maybe a small jet with a rotary Wankel type engine, 10,000 Turboed RPM, yeehaw.

Pools of melt water in the icebergs........;)

I run at Big Lake, where I also live. It is a State Recreation Site, Jetskis, Speed Boats, Fishing, Sailing, diving,, water skiing, wake boarding, and a lot...I mean a lot of float planes. We all use the lake, and for the most part, get along.

Some guys run at Nancy Lake, and I'm sure there a few more on the Kenai Peninsula, and in the interior near Fairbanks that I don't know about.

For some interesting reading, Google, The Alaskan Wet Dog Race, it is a jet ski race, 2000 miles, in the coastal ocean in the spirit of the 1400 mile Iron Dog Cross State snowmobile race. The race originators are running the course right now to study feasibility, Total nut jobs !!!

Balls, no balls to be found after taking a dip, you want shrinkage, we got it!!!

Of course there are those nut jobs that will go on the lake in early May, but we wear drysuits that early, going to wetsuits and shorty's when it gets warmer. The lake will warm up by the end of this month. The lake is frozen all winter, which we drive our cars and trucks (and of course snowmobiles )on to get around. The ice went out just after Mothers day, and there were people riding watercraft in some melted areas even before that.

We live hard and play hard up here!

But yet there are those that stand out among us, like the Wet Dog Wack jobs.

CLEAN SWEEP!

The first ever, fully successful, first dip.

I installed the engine, backed into the lake, a little cranking, and the sweet satisfying sound of Four Cycle Thunder. No major problems, no oops I forgot that, well, a few drips, but I tightened some fittings and we're good to go!
No overheat problems on the new configuration.

Although I think the engine is a little weak, there seemed to be excessive axial thrust or end play. And oil pressure drops significantly at sustained mid and short burst high RPMs.

1) I suspect that the center bearing is shot if I have that much endplay.

2) If the bearings are shot I think that would explain the low oil pressure?

3) It could be the cheap a$$ Chrome dollar parts store oil pan the boat came with. It is for a car, and the sump is on front and the oil pan is only 6.5 q. I think the oil is running to the shallow side of the sump, and the crank is creating windage keeping oil from getting to the pickup.

I think I will order a pan today to fix this.

Any body have preferences on Milodin vs Rex Marine vs etc regarding oil pans. i.e. attached windage trays, some assembly required windage trays etc...
