Finally got a call from the hospital. Tomm 5 am check in at Havasu for the old open heart.
New arortic valve and redo a vein that is swelling. Stuck there for about 5 nights, please post some good stuff!!

We’ve had good experiences at HRMC. An emergency cardio procedure then ICU for my wife and a 8 hour back surgery for me. Regardless, in today’s Med world, it is best to be proactive. Don’t be a PIA, but remain aware and attentive. FWIW, my wife was able to bring me food. The food wasn’t terrible, just typical hospital food.

Went through this about 12 years ago. Mechanical aortic valve and about 4" of dacron hose replacing part of my aorta. I'm now a permanent member of the coumadin club. It's not as bad as I expected.

Just learn how to avoid stressing the chest incision. Other that it's just recovery time. When you come home from the hospital you will be doing a lot of eating and sleeping.

Hopefully it's Dr. Atassi. Dude saved my life after a heart attack in 2015. He and everyone at his office and at HRMC were extremely professional and competent.

Can't say I'd want to do it again, but if I had to, wouldn't have any issues with either.

My dad had Dr. Cevera and Dr. Shaikh do his triple bypass about a year ago at LHRMC Both very good and the ICU staff was really good as well. I spent a lot of time in there and never had any worries about what they were doing after watching them work.

I had the same surgery thirteen years ago, great results. Technology has improved, you will be fine and after recovery do physical rehab. You will be on the water this summer. Good luck and God Bless.

Just had it done feb 9th. At 52 years old I decided to go with the tissue valve, didn’t want to deal with blood thinners yet. Also had a double bypass. Keep positive thoughts!!

Bets of luck with surgery, my buddy has had 2 done, 3-4 different times stents put in and the carotid artery in his neck replaced, he said he is like a 25 year old again.

If you end up on blood thinners, it’s not that big of a deal.

I’ve been on them since 2004. Warfarin for most of that time, which is a bit inconvenient, with regular blood testing and certain dietary restrictions (you can eat anything you want, but need to be somewhat consistent on vitamin K intake). I switched to Eliquis about two years ago, and it is easier as there’s no testing required and no dietary restrictions. Definitely worth discussing your options if you need a blood thinner, but either way it isn’t as bad as some make it out to be.

EDIT: If you end up on warfarin, you can get a home tester (just prick a finger), which makes it much easier to deal with.

Dr Atassi is my Cardiologist. And Dr. Shaikh is my Polyminologist he saved my life when I had covid skip. I had a Quadruple bypass September 2006. Out in Phoenix. And Dr Atassi did a Stent a few years ago. You're in good hands prayers for speedy recovery

Atassi and Kwon are my 2 Doc's and will be doing mine here pretty soon! .... While waiting for Atassi to do my Angiogram I watched the two of them (on computer screen outside the operating room) do a Valve replacement!
