Don’t think they are changing the length or width, government grant kinda $$, use it or lose it. So they are getting the old runway completely removed and a new one installed. Keeps them in line for more grants in the future. I did hear that the military might have a larger presence there in the future.

I've notice significantly more military aircraft in/out there. I do not see them doing stuff at Chemehuevi Airport nearly as often as I used to.

Havasu Airport was trained and approved to fuel the fighter jets about a year ago, not sure how much of that they actually do.

The runway needs repaved when the pavement has reached a certain age. Something like every 15 years. Most improvements are paid through Airport Improvement Plan grants that are an 80/20 deal. The grant pays 80%, local government pays the 20% match. The federal money comes from the excise taxes on fuel sales.

Past air service to Havasu was subsidized by the government under the EASP.

A lot of that money has gone away in budget cuts for that program.
