I couldn't begin to you how many BLer's I've worked on over the years. If I remember right you could buy one outside at Costco for like $4995.00. It was the sequential lift hull, whatever the hell that meant. Granted it was a AQ120/270 power package that was more than enough for an entry style boat and got the family on the water. We were a V/P only shop and did TONS of 20 hour checks on them for BL.. A big plus was one could throw a intake manifold and another carb on it and gain an extra 20 hp. That was quite noticeable back in the day.

I had a 16' Capri with a three cylinder Chrysler 85Hp motor clamped on the back. Great fun, $2800. I replaced the seats and carpet, drilled in a few cupholders and we had a great time. Salt water wave jumping off Point Loma, fishing in the ocean off of La Jolla, trips to Mohave, Laughlin, Havasu, Mission Bay, Lake Perris, etc. It was a great boat to learn on and see what was worth doing. Used it for a few years and sold it for $2500.

I remember my first trip through the Havasu channel and seeing all those custom boats. I seriously had no clue boats like that even existed prior to that trip, LOL. The most tricked out boat I had seen before was a DONZI at the San Diego boat show. I didn't have cool parents like my kids do....

One time the steering cable broke. I had to sit on the back and steer by hand turning the outboard engine a little left, a little right.

First boat was a BR185 with the 3.0 4cyl. It ran great everywhere Parker to Mohave and even Lake Isabella. Would launch at the Riverside in Laughlin at 9am and run the river down to Pirates and Topock Gorge without ever having an issue. Sold that and bought a Larson 228LXI with a 5.7 Volvo that did well for a few years before we decided Havasu was our spot and we needed some more boat. Now a 26.5’ Domn8er deck with 540ci and 8/71 blower that runs and handles just a bit different than the first two 😬

My little sea ray is the same thing and we have enjoyed it . Has shade , stereo and room for a ice chest . It definitely does not have the fit and finish of my old cole but it sure has made a ton of memories

Your little Sea Ray is a little bit more boat than the 17' Capri's were.

I had a Larson while my Ultra got fixed. Plan B. Everyone looked down on me and treated me like a peasant compared to the Ultra. Used it a few months and sold it for a $2800 profit.
My first boat was a Larson. Was a great 1st boat. It was 5 yrs old when I got it. After 5 years, i was going to $6500 on a trade in. My sister said she would give me that. After 5 more years she sold it for $6500. DOH!!

For me it was hard not be on every model Bayliner built , If you lived on the Puget sound it was the goal to be able to afford a nice bayliner..When you went to the Sea-Fair Regatta , the unlimited hydro's and the logboom in the newest cruiser in the 24-30 range you were ass much of a bad ass as DCB,ELIMINATOR, etc in the channel.. And because so many of their models had a place to lay down I would bet more sex was had on that brand then most..😁

Never had a Bayliner. But I did have a commander... no complaints. I have nothing negative to say about each.

I would never own a larger Bayliner but the small recreational boats especially 20 feet and below are decent boats the hardware though was pretty cheap so if you rectify that issue or put back in plates or higher quality hardware you have a pretty decent family boat for the price. If you ever look at one their outboard designs they made thousands of them and actually make an excellent small outboard boat 20 feet or so just get the right motor on it.

Why the opinion of not owning a larger one? I’m already looking to sell the “new” Searay and upgrade to larger. LOTS of the Bayliners around here in Oregon and Washington.

i proudly have.anyone else ? it floated,it ran,it held lots of humans and was a great river boat.

My cousin's got a Bayliner. Its the family truckster of boating but it gets it done. They go every year to the River, and they boat down in the bays of San Diego. Its not much to look at but then its cheap to maintain and no one cares if it gets dock rash or someone whacks it with a beach chair.

Yup! Bought it when I was 18. It was an 01 Bayliner Capri by with the 3.0. I think I paid about 8k for it. It was like new and ran perfect up to the day I sold it about 3ish years later. I was not a riverrat growing up so this was a perfect learning boat. Had a ton of fun on it.

It didn't even have a stereo for the 1st season.

Not a bayliner but I still have my first boat. 2006 21ft Tahoe Q6. Bought in 2010. My BIL had a Bayliner. Good boat. Never broke down. Everything always worked. We bought both our boats within a few years of each other.

I thought about selling mine when he sold his to get a Advantage 22 sport cat. Then He had nothing but issues with that boat when he got it. I said I’ll stick with the Tahoe.

Thought about selling the Tahoe again when my BIL sold the Advantage to get a 24 Tige’. Then he has issues with the pumps trailer and a number of other issues. Not as big though. Wife and kids were adamant that they loved our boat and didn’t want me to sell it. So I said why the hell am I going to get a different boat!

It’s still outside and in the driveway. I try to take care of it. Custom cover, tower, stereo upgrades, custom canopy, getting it polished and ceramic coated, annual service etc. Still looks good (maybe new interior soon) and never lets me down (knock on wood). Have no plans on selling it now with the purchase of the new house.

Never owned a Bayliner but here's a story: Back in the early 90's an old buddy of mine would set up his tournament waterski course almost every weekend to practice between tournaments. The course was located in the back bay of the Seal Beach warm water jetty. I'd join in on the fun regularly once a month to hit the course and hang out with the guys.

On one occasion a Bayliner pulls up into the back bay and is watching us guys tear up the course. Guys in the Bayliner pull up to us and asks if they can give the course a try and we said sure, in the back of our minds we said this is going to be good. Bayliner hits the course, skier in tow and the guy clears all the buoys on the first shot. We were all in shock and from that moment on my perspective changed on Bayliner boats and their owners forever...

Back in the day we had one of those little Bayliner Jazz squirt boats as a dock basher. That thing was a hell of a wave jumper. :)

I have a 2550 Flybridge that I purchased at an estate suction for $500.00. It sat for 10 years before I purchased it, changed fluids, added gas and it started up. It is a fun boat to hang out on with plenty of room.

I grew up in a house on the beach. I didn't have a Bayliner. A guy up the beach from us had a 16 Capri. He is two years older then me, but despite the age difference, we hung out. Think his mother was paying $98 per month for the Capri. At the time I had a 17 Sea Ray Seville and my dad had a 22 Boston Whaler Outrage. But we still had fun with the Capri.

Had a 1973 hard top 24 Reinell Express cruiser until the 76 Spectra I bought new.. Both, Reinell and Baylibers were called Tupperware boats.🤣

1982 1950 Cobra, only year they were built; had two of them. All colored gel coat, foam cored, bonded deck and hull; 406 SBC with Volvo Penta speedmaster drive. This one was hull #44 of 50, yes they sat in the mold one week.

Had an 18.5 bayliner with a 4.3 when we were first married and boated all over the chain o lakes in IL. Even took it 60 miles to Chicago from Winthrop Harbor to watch the fireworks one time.

Moved up to 28 dcb with an 800 teague in 2000.

I never worried about the bayliner, had more fun, friends, and hours running that boat with no drama.

I started with a Maxum, basically a byliner with nicer finish and features. Added a tower and had some fun wake boarding in our early 20's. That is the boat that started our families' boating program.
