I recognize that. My wife and I stayed right down the street the first time we went to Moab.

I would love to see that in person.

Flooding like that happens every few years. When I was a kid we made it out of there a couple of hours before it flooded like that. When we got to the top nobody notified that we made it out. They sent a helicopter to look for us. The tribe thought we were lost in the flooding and sent search parties looking for us.

Havasupai falls about 175 miles northeast from the city of Lake Havasu.
Or about 55 miles northwest from my ranch on the Colorado plateau.
Cataract Creek, which heads NNW from Williams to the Colorado River, is about a half mile from the ranch.
A bit of rain the last few days.

A coworker and his girlfriend did the hike to the store or campground and spent the night in a tent and hiked back the next day if I remember correctly. The photos he showed me were incredible and I had never heard of this place before.

On the same indigenous tribe(Havasupai) reservation as the Glass Skywalk.

We took a group of Scouts there for a week, there was a flood just before we got there but our week was great, just a little muddy. Then when we were leaving the Tribal police said we couldn't hike out because another flood was on its way. I think it was like a 5 hr hike in but 5 min out by helicopter. The Sonic in Kingman tasted so good on the way back to Havasu.

If you have not done havasupai falls you are missing out. It's incredible. Hike it, rent a horse, or helicopter in/out. The trails and waterfalls are unforgettable.

I’ve been caught out in a monsoon storm, at night, on Bartlett lake, near Phoenix in 1979.
I Anchored in a small /Smooth cove, when I realized I was not getting back to the ramp. The lightening and thunder was stupid crazy, and probably gave me PTSD after an hour straight. Some of those strikes were less than 100 yards away.

2 hours later we’re back at the ramp, loaded on the trailer heading home, driving through a flooded road, 300 yards wide, with 4 inches of water running over it at night pitch black. That was 1979, when most of the roads out this way was dirt.

I can only assume people made decisions to cross while others listened to warnings, and survived.

If you have not done Havasupai Falls you are missing out. It's incredible. Hike it, rent a horse, or helicopter in/out. The trails and waterfalls are unforgettable.

I agree Havasupai Falls is incredibly beautiful. The Indian Village not so much. It's a Shithole, like most Reservations. 5 years ago, we did the 8-mile hike down to Supai Village, and had our bags carried down by donkeys. If I were to do it again, I would take the helicopter. Save your legs to hike all the way down to the Grand Canyon instead! The hike to the campground is mostly walking thru 10 miles of sandy wash, and not much to see. Once you get past the campground and make your way down to the falls it's probably one of the most naturally beautiful sites that God made on this earth!!! Highly Recommended.

Probably not.
In 1933 and 1952, they installed 2 settling ponds up river from Havasu, for exactly this purpose, just to avoid having muddy water entering Lake Havasu. It's crude but effective.

Havasupai dumps into the grand canyon, above mead, which has always been muddy. Mead is big and the first basin clears it up just fine.

When we have heavy, localized floods, the river gets pretty chocolatey, I’ve never seen the lake get like that. Happens every once in a while when we have a heavy rainy season.
