Man what a fun weekend. The water was rough as hell, the weather was perfect, and racing was intense. With the exception of the accident with Brad and John. I pray they are both going to be alright. The weekend was a lot of fun.

Couple of thoughts I had..... The Casino boat sucks. They have a schedule I understand, but they have no problem driving by the course and putting out 4 foot rollers. I used to hate that boat, now I really hate that boat.

That being said, it's an equalizer, we all have to drive through it so there's no advantage or disadvantage to anyone.

There were less teams in Havasu than Parker. We need new blood. Guys with boats if you will. It's an "old school" sport I guess. Not sure how to get some younger guys involved. If you have only driven a boat recreationally though, and never gone into a corner 4 wide pulling skiers, you haven't lived yet. It makes boating crazy fun.

So many variables that control your chances at victory also. In the marathons they have to ski 50 minutes plus a lap. That's an hour of skiing as fast as you are able. Through the soup. Trying to stay up and not make any mistakes while dealing with fatigue. As a driver your on your game, trying to keep your speed constant, trying to pick a good line, looking for flat water so you can pick up speed, watching for downed skiers, and holding your lines in the corners. It's intense at times. I came around a corner, there was a downed skier in the turn on the outside, I start to come out of the turn and there's another downed on the inside I didn't see. I let off the throttle, somehow my skier managed to pull the slack out of the line and stay up. Talk about a holy fuck moment. Lol.

The water this weekend was worse than Catalina last year IMO. Between the wind, boat traffic and the casino boat. Windsor beach area is always rough anyhow. It made it really competitive because the rough water doesn't let the skiers ski flat out like Parker and fatigue plays a bigger role.

One more thing. So Cole and I, decide to do this this year. We practice a little, do Parker and finish relatively well. This race we pick up Dennis, who's a great observer. What a difference. The observer controls the boat. Driver drives, observer controls the speed and tells you where to be in the corners. He dictates how much he can push the skier. With Dennis, we were on our game. Finished first in our class. Thanks D and thanks Cole for the fun.

Awesome write up:thumbup: If I was back down south I'd be building a boat and looking for a skier to partake in these races.

Awesome summary of the weekend. On Saturday, that was definitely some of the biggest water I've ever skied in... and definitely no help from that casino boat. I'm with you Paul...I hate that thing!

At least in the Catalina race there is some current and a little rime or reason to the chop, but this was straight up washing machine. There was times I was looking in front of me trying to read the water then a peak in the choppy water disappears and you fall into a 3 foot hole going wtf just happened. It was definitely a good time and awesome racing!

My thoughts and prayers are with Brad and John for a speedy recovery!

Brad was released only bruised and sore according to my sources,, and headed down to Foxs yesterday afternoon. John was allowed to wake up,, apparently responded to voices and moving, prior to be sedated again.

Great write up. It is definitely a rush going into a turn with all the other boats and skiers around you.

Hope Brad an John are ok and a speedy recovery!

Otherwise it sounds like a lot of fun and a must try at least once kind of sport. I watched for a few minutes and we were driving pretty fast and the skiers were going even faster. Crazy skills on both the driver and the skier!

The casino boat driver got a piece of my mind yesterday...well in sign language. Those drivers act like they're the only boat in the channel.

Congrats Paul. They need to set of markers. The ones you race around and a different color set further out to keep the boat traffic further away from the course. Just my .02

Who in the world was driving your boat to give you that much slack in the rope coming out of that corner?

That's when I came around and went in between two downed skiers. It scared the shit out of me because I never saw the one on the inside. I was watching the one on the outside. Totally my fault.

I know exactly where that was... when we went thru the inside boat was right next to the skier, which made seeing them alot easier.

Driving is a bigger rush than I expected, but not even close to skiing;):thumbup::thumbup:

Congrats to Team #211 :thumbsup
Cole seems to ski stronger every time I see him and Paul... well you look like cool Hand Luke behind the wheel of that Schiada as you can see in this photo.

I also included a shot of JT Van Ryte from Sunday's Mini Marathon last month in Parker behind #107. It's obvious that his driver Glen Anderson and #359 driver Gery Sinnott were paying close attention as they threaded the needle to avoid each other and the #512 boat who was tending to their downed skier.

By the way, nice sequence shots Justin! :thumbsup

OD1,

wished I had made a point of coming down and saying hi.

On the other note, when I drove past the event location on sunday the first thing I said to myself was, this has to be the worst location other than being "specatator friendly" for the event. The boat traffic from windsor to the channel sending wakes and rollers all day long, boats leaving the channel as I did and running north would send huge rollers the other direction and yes, there is the ferry boat wake that you could surf behind. yikes :eek

sounds like you guys made the most of it, Im sure it beat being at home or work. See ya later this week. Cam

Nice post Paul. I remember that corner too I was on the inside of you and came around the corner seeing two skiers down and think OHH SHIT!!! I kept to the inside and are rope went over the buoy. I new you were right next to me and was think were the hell is he going to go. But glad we made it thru!!

I think the best part of racing is when you know the people in the boat next to you and your side by side going around corners, nothing gives you more adrenalin.

Thank you Paul for the ski ride:thumbsup Everything seemed to run very safe and smooth throughout the weekend thanks to your driving. It takes more patience than one would think to drive for a novice skier like me and Paul's calm demeanor suited the situation perfectly. Dennis knows his shit as an observer and his knowledge and assertiveness was vital to our success. All in all it was an inspiring weekend and great motivation to get back to work for the next outing:thumbsup
