I have been boating on Havasu for the last 20 years and while I really like the lake, it is getting more and more crowded. Thinking of buying a second home in Havasu or maybe Bullhead and was wondering which lake is better for boating, Havasu or Mohave and why? Not into the party scene, just relaxing, and a little fishing.

Just bought in Fort Mohave.

Here are my reasons:

Closer to sandy beaches
Depending on where you are in havasu it's an extra 30 to 45 mins after needles.
Laughlin is only 20 mins away from fort mohave
Jack Smiths marina isn't a shit show
You can always boat down to havasu

If you have property in willow valley you get access to that launch ramp and private beach.

35 mins from lake mohave.

You’re right. Just seems way crowded on the weekends. We boat Havasu mostly on weekdays or, If we go, will head to the very South end of the lake. On weekend trips we typically head to Mohave.

Jack Smith is “Usually” not a shitshow. This year is an exemption on the weekends.

I prefer Mohave, but I dont really care much for the party scene or “night life”. Personally I prefer the casinos in Laughlin anyways. I don’t dislike havasu, we just prefer bullhead and lake Mohave

I grew up going to Mohave exclusively. My dad grew up going to parker and for some reason liked the solitude of Mohave so thats where he took us. Its a great lake and completely different than Havasu in my opinion. Its part of a national park so no bars or restraunts on the water aside from what is in the few marinas. Like stated above Katherines landing is the closest ramp to Bullhead Laughlin and can be a major major shit show on the weekends. Probably better beaches than Havasu and way more of them. If you get on the lake head up river and get away from the crowds. The lake is freaking long. Tons of coves and places to go where you wont see another boat.
Now if i am being honest we really dont go there much anymore and its mostly due to the launch ramps and type of people I think Laughlin attracts that make the marina/launch ramp just not worth it.

Havasu has way more options on most everything. Ramps, marinas, restraunts, destination runs in the boats etc but as stated way more crowded and the party seen is way more intense.

There are so many more places to go other than Havasu or Mohave on the Colorado. Mead is great and Powell is even better. We spend our summers now hitting the water everywhere in between and including Parker all the way to Powell. If you havent been try Temple bar on lake Mead, Its a bit of a drive but way worth it. One of the best places to relax and get away from it all.

Katherine's on Mohave can be a shitshow on weekends, especially after 9 am. Princess cove, a few minutes north of Katherine's isn't as bad, but its a hike up to the parking lot.

I haven't been to Cottonwood Cove lately, but used to go often in the 90's. Great area.

Willow Beach is less crowded, but less beaches up that way, and the cold water, any time of year.

My boat(s) are freeboard challenged, so I mostly boat on the river, aka, casino row and south. 'Most' of the rental pwc's stay north of Harrah's and Bullhead Community Park. Busy weekends, I'll head south of BCP, and head towards Big Bend S.P., boy scout camp, Lazy Harry's, and beyond to the Avi or to Needles Marina area. Beyond that, the water gets rough, and fuel starts to be a concern.

I've done Bullhead to Havasu and back, but I'd rather tow down to Havasu for the day.

+1 for Temple Bar.

IMHO - Mohave above Cottonwood Cove is outstanding. We enjoy living in LHC and boat on Havasu. But, upper Lake Mohave is just a different world. If you're looking for bars and restaurants, Mohave is not the place for you.

My folks had a place on the water in Bullhead for many years. Spent most of my time on the river and would go to Mohave here and there for something different. Mohave is a great lake with plenty of coves and is best up north of Cottonwood with Red rock canyons and views similar to Topock (though not quite as good). We also enjoyed the area and being able to go to the casinos to play and for dinner. Drop the kids off at Kids Castle (Riverside Resort) and head to Losers Lounge for Wet T Thursdays. Had a blast in the area for many years.

Laughlin went down hill really bad over the last 10-15 years. They have not put any money into the hotels/casinos and everything is just run down and smells. The crowds have also changed and is just not my vibe. Too many large families with a pair of jet skis and no respect for other people, safety, beaches, leaving trash, etc.

My wife and I recently purchased a place in Havasu and are extremely happy with everything it has to offer. There are so many great destinations to boat to and you can get your fill for the lake and the river even on the same day. Hands down, I am 100% happy with our choice of Havasu over Bullhead. But we like the ability to party with others, hang in a cove by ourselves, grab some lunch on the water, and still be able to go have a quality dinner or hit a bar in the evening. Oh wait, did I mention off-roading and shooting. Havasu is also better for that as well.
