Havasu offroad use permit?

I have been in Havasu for over 40 years. My 27yo son was pulled over in the sand dune area in his Honda Talon, he has an offroad and street plate with insurance that is up to date. The officer that pulled him and the group over required all vehicles to have a “offroad use permit”. My son and everyone else in the group had to purchase a $20 permit on the spot or be written up. Has anyone else heard of this permit being required?

Yeah, never heard of a ticket being issued though. The dune area is the only place I’ve seen patrolled. They hang out in the area around castle rock.

Yes , State Trust Land. It's not a secret, buy the family permit online, super easy.
And that was very nice of the cop to tell them to buy the permit instead of getting the ticket.

State land permit as mentioned above. Its cheap and covers an entire family for a year. Officers told us that even if a person is simply walking their dog through state land its required.

Sounds like state land permit and lucky they let them buy it there. Usually they will cite it as trespassing and a good fine.

Okay I’m confused. Is this the same sticker that everyone’s talking about? This one is $30 and the other one is $20 for a family.
Do I need both? I’m a CA resident but my X3 has the on/off road AZ plate on it.

You need the AZ OHV sticker on your license plate, plus the AZ State Trust Permit (Family) if you are using state trust land. There is some grey area with the state trust permit- and most people don’t carry one- but if you do get stopped it’s nice to have.

A Recreational Permit allows the authorized permittee limited privileges to use State Trust land for some recreation. Recreation under this permit is limited to: geocaching, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, bicycling, photography, sightseeing and bird watching. Overnight camping is restricted to no more than 14 cumulative days per year. Remote-controlled aircraft (drones) may be operated on State Trust land with a Recreational Permit and in conjunction with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.

Off-Highway Vehicular (OHV) travel on State Trust land is permitted with proper licensing, and is only allowed on existing roads or trails. You can cross without a permit but not allowed to stop is what i understand. If you have the permit you can stop take a break explore etc.

Another tip if you have a hunting license you are allowed to hunt on state land without the state permit. Coyote season is all year

OHV, $25 sticker, allows you to cross state land. You can't stop, park, recreate, fornicate, or urinate on state land.
State family permit, $20, allows you to do all of the above.
If you aren't sure where you are riding just get the state land permit too

I'm curious if monkeybutt's son was "pulled over" or were they parked on state land

And for info almost all the land around Havasu is state trust. It is what theu have sold for all the stuff up cherry tree.

Body beach is also state trust land many don’t get permit but can be cited for it. Unless your a homeless camp

For me I have no problem paying the $20, I guess my issue was not even knowing it was required. I have not seen any signs in the state trust areas. At minimum they should have a leaflet informing you in the OHV permit when it is mailed to your house.

It’s been a requirement since I was a kid. The more busy it gets out there the more they’ll enforce it. Until they sell off the land lol.
